How can the Wizards beat the Pacers?

The Washington Wizards are coming off of a difficult loss to the Toronto Raptors. Against what many would consider to be a “small team”, the Wizards were dominated in the paint while also being unable to execute a consistent offence.

Washington faces a similar issue in the Pacers, while also having to overcome a fantastic interior duo of Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis. The pair combine for 30.3 points, 19.6 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game.

Montrezl Harrell and Daniel Gafford fall quite short of Indiana’s pair statistically, but their energy can make up for a lot. If Washington can compete with Indiana’s interior attack, they might have the offensive quality to take a victory.

Wizards Key Player: (G) Bradley Beal

The Washington Wizards are coming off of a tough match where Bradley Beal struggled from the floor. When Washington face Indiana, Beal needs to be a factor on the offensive end.

In Beal’s last game, a loss to the Raptors, he posted 14 points and 7 assists, on just 4 of 12 shooting from the field.

When Washington’s offence isn’t going, they don’t really have anything else to lean on. Beal is their ace on the offensive end, so Washington need to make it a point to get him scoring early.

How can the Pacers beat the Wizards?

The Indiana Pacers are starving for a win, and they’ve got a great opportunity against a fatigued Washington Wizards side. To secure a win, Indiana must limit Washington’s opportunities from three.

In losses, the Wizards shoot under 30% from three-point range. But the Pacers, who are in the bottom third of the league in three-point defence, need to up their standards.

They’re not a strong three-point shooting team, but Washington have a few players that must be limited from deep. Bradley Beal, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Kyle Kuzma should be at the top of the list of players that Indiana must stop.

Pacers Key Player: (G) Caris LeVert

The Indiana Pacers are coming off of a loss to the Miami Heat. In that game, Caris LeVert was one of the few bright spots for Rick Carlisle’s team.

In 37 minutes of play, LeVert posted 27 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. He was an efficient 8 of 16 from the field, despite going just 1 of 5 from three.

Against the high-scoring Wizards, Indiana need LeVert to be engaged from tip-off. He needs to improve on his three-point shooting, but his aggressiveness and ability to get to the free throw line are always welcome.
