New Year’s weekend is the culmination of the college football season. This weekend, the College Football Playoff games and many other massive matchups are on the slate.
Star players deliver in the most significant moments, which means New Year’s weekend is a great time to bet on player props. Early in bowl season, we see a lot of opt-outs, but these are more limited in the bigger games.
Let’s break down some of our favorite player props for a fantastic stretch of games over three days!
The Peach Bowl matchup is exciting. On the one hand, we have Penn State, one of the best teams in the Big 10, but they haven’t played a lot of quality opponents. When they did face good programs in Michigan and Ohio State, they fell flat on their face.
Ole Miss is a 10-win team with one of the SEC's most explosive offenses. They throw the ball down the field with Jaxson Dart, and the Nittany Lions haven’t seen a comparable spread offense to Ole Miss all year.
The Rebels will score points in this game with Jaxson Dart despite Penn State’s great defense. Ole Miss has seen quality defenses in the SEC, and they’ve risen to the occasion. It may take a little time to start, but they have a high boom chance.
This brings me back to Drew Allar for Penn State. Allar has been inconsistent with his passing yards recently, as he hasn’t broken 100 yards in two of his past three contests. There were some games where he threw for 220+ and others where he didn’t break 100 yards.
However, Allar had an extra month to prepare for this game and is no longer a sophomore. He is a junior at this point in the year, and Ole Miss has a middle-of-the-road passing defense. He has exceeded this margin in eight of 12 games and threw 23 touchdowns with just one interception.
His line is spot on, but if the game goes how I think, James Franklin will ask Allar to target his receivers down the field, and he is good enough to succeed against this Ole Miss secondary.

Ohio State is without Kyle McCord, who will play for Syracuse next year. Marvin Harrison Jr. and TreVeyon Henderson are also questionable as they debate if they will enter the draft and not play in this game.
However, an underdog is a hungry dog, and hungry dogs run faster. Missouri has embraced the underdog narrative all season, leading to a 9-2 record and a top-ten ranking.
Ohio State will have most of their players for the Cotton Bowl, so there isn’t an easy path to victory for Missouri. The Tigers don’t have the best defense in the world, but they can easily score. Quarterback Brady Cook has been fantastic, and his favorite target this season has been Luther Burden III.
Burden is a 5’11” receiver with great hands and elite speed. He caught 83 passes for 1197 yards with eight touchdowns this season. His elite speed creates a lot of yards after the catch. His yardage total is listed at 75.5, which is relatively high against a team like Ohio State.
The Buckeyes allow less than 150 yards per game through the air. Despite this, we’ll see Mizzou consciously try to get the ball to Burden in space. This can be with screens and in the short passing game.
This strategy results in more receptions rather than yards. Burden could easily surpass his yards, but the receptions are the smarter prop play.
