Loyola have been playing suffocating perimeter defense over their last two games in the tournament. The Beavers have also been tremendous defensively, coming off of a great performance against Oklahoma State.

The Ramblers don’t just have Sister Jean and head coach Porter Moser on their side, they have a tremendous defensive standard that has suffocated teams all season long.
In their last two victories, Loyola is forcing teams into 29.2% shooting from the three-point line. On the other hand, they’ve given up the paint and allowed their opponents to shoot 58.2% from inside the arc. They’ve been successful when they can control the glass and slow the pace.
This is unlikely to be a high-scoring match, but the Ramblers’ efficiency can be a game-changer. They’ve shot 40.5% from three in their two games and 49% from the field overall. Loyola (IL) has it all in their favor.
Oregon State are going to be very comfortable with the pace that Loyola (IL) want to play. The issue will be whether or not they’ll be able to outscore the Ramblers as the game slows down.
In their first two games in the NCAA Tournament, the Beavers have been solid, but not spectacular on the offensive side of the ball. They are shooting 44.9% from the field and 39% from three, more importantly, they’re converting on 19 of their 22.5 free-throw attempts per game.
In terms of offence, the Beavers are just as capable as Loyola (IL) are in this matchup. They share the ball at a decent clip – 14.6 assists per game – which could unlock the Rambler’s defence for them.
Cameron Krutwig was on a mission today ?

Senior big man Cameron Krutwig may not have the most attractive game, but his reliability in the paint has powered the Ramblers’ success.
Krutwig helped take down No. 1 seed Illinois in his last game, contributing 19 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in a very impressive performance.
The Ducks have been doing a great job on the defensive side, so Krutwig will likely have a tough time trying to score. But his ability to keep the ball moving to find a better shot for his teammates could be just as valuable.
Ethan Thompson was clutch for Oregon State. The Senior put up 26 points and 7 rebounds in a Beavers win ? @_ethanthompson5 @marchmadness pic.twitter.com/awpoAGP1dt

Senior guard Ethan Thompson has been one of the Beavers’ best players through the 2020-2021 season. In a difficult second round matchup, Thompson showed his senior savvy.
Thompson had one of the best games of his season, posting 26 points and seven rebounds on five of 11 shooting from the field. His key contribution was his ability to convert at the free-throw line, where he went 15 of 16.
If the Beavers want to win, they’ll need Thompson’s willingness to attack the basket. If he can get to the free-throw line, especially if the game is close, the free points could just be the difference-maker for Oregon State.
