The NFL recently announced a change to their postseason overtime rules. The new rule ensures both teams will receive possession in overtime. The vote was 29-3 in favor of the change. This will help teams that are less fortunate when it comes to coin-flip results. Teams that have won the overtime coin-flip in the postseason were 10-2. “I actually wish they changed it for the whole season. I don’t like the ‘coin-toss winner’,” said Krackomberger.
Explaining the rule, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on NFL.com:
We’re always looking to improve and I think what really drove the decision was the database, ultimately, and looking at the facts and what’s happened. Where we saw that most having an influence, I think, was 12 games in the postseason that have been in overtime, seven of which were won on the first possession. When you see that, that’s the type of thing that I think our coaches and everyone looked at — this is an issue in the postseason we should deal with.
There’s been no shortage of movement around the NFL either. “It’s not just (Tom) Brady coming back,” said Krackomberger. Krack would go on to speak about players that stick with one team throughout their careers. “It doesn’t happen anymore,” said Bill.
Jon and Bill were joined by John Laghezza who is, by all accounts, a baseball savant. Creator of the MLB Moving Averages betting algorithm, writer at The Athletic, and a regular at the Mayo Media Network, John dives deep into a strategy for the upcoming season.
For John, it starts with a dedication to his craft.
If you want to succeed at trading, the same way you need to succeed at betting, the most important thing is the price. I chart stocks in the middle of the night. I enter the market when the price meets me. I don’t try and force timing on the market.
Bill was curious, so he asked John about one of his favorite bets involving the Milwaukee Brewers. John was excited to answer and said, “The Brewers right off the bat are the best-placed team for value. Pitching. Pitching. Pitching. I don’t know why people bet on hitting when the best hitters only succeed 3 of 10 times. Good pitching defeats good hitting.”
The guys tap into John’s mind even more and get his take on how the MLB’s recent rule changes will impact gambling, bettors, and even players. “I do think it will save a couple of injuries. That’s the most important thing,” said Laghezza when referring to the extra base runner rule.
With the new rule changes, John has created a rule of his own. “I have completely eliminated nine-inning unders from my betting plans,” said Laghezza. Watch the rest of the interview to learn more from one of the sharpest minds in baseball.
“I honestly, touch a bible, would not have known the Oscars were on if it wasn’t for this,” said Bill. “I don’t follow that stuff.”
“The only two people that could get away with it are Will Smith and The Rock,” said Jon. “It was so bad.”
Bill didn’t mince words and said, “To be blunt, I’m not a Will Smith guy.”
Jon had a solution for the whole debacle and said “All he had to do was pull Chris Rock backstage and say ‘Hey man, I don’t know if you know but Jada’s going through some health stuff and she was really offended by that.’ Chris would probably be the first to apologize!”
Jon wraps things up by sharing a story about his father speaking with Adam Sandler and Chris Rock on the phone.
