Ketlen Vieira | TALE OF THE TAPE | Miesha Tate |
30 | Age | 35 |
5 ft. 8 in. | Height | 5 ft. 6 in. |
68 in. | Reach | 65 in. |
11-2 | Record | 19-7 |
Miesha Tate shocked the MMA world earlier this year when she announced her return to the sport following more than a four-year layoff.
She returned to the octagon this past July in the co-main event and took on Marion Reneau. Tate was impressive in her return, earning a third-round TKO stoppage; becoming the first woman to ever stop Reneau in the cage. She was also awarded a “performance of the night” bonus.
Prior to her 2021 return, Tate was riding back-to-back losses. First, she lost her bantamweight title to current champion Amanda Nunes. She followed that with a lackluster decision loss to Raquel Pennington.
Despite her success in her UFC return, her opponent this Saturday, Ketlen Vieira, is very different from Marion Renau. The Brazilian fighter holds an 11-2 record and holds black belts in both judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Training with Nova União Manaus, Vieira is currently ranked as the number-seven women’s bantamweight in the promotion.
Not only will she have the grappling edge, but Vieira will also have a two-inch height and three-inch reach advantage over Miesha Tate.
However, Vieira has gone just 2-2 over her last four fights.
Still, she is the slight betting favorite over Tate, with odds of -115 compared to Tate’s -105.
Michael Chiesa | TALE OF THE TAPE | Sean Brady |
33 | Age | 28 |
6 ft. 1 in. | Height | 5 ft. 9 in. |
75.5 in. | Reach | 72 in. |
18-5 | Record | 14-0 |
After battling weight issues over several fights in the lightweight division, Michael Chiesa made the move to the welterweight division in 2018 and immediately put the division on notice.
He debuted against former interim champion Carlos Condit and submitted him in the second round. He then defeated former title challenger Diego Sanchez and former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. He won his fourth in a row at welterweight this past January when he defeated another top-15 opponent in Neil Magny.
However, in his last outing, Chiesa was outmatched by Vicente Luque and was ultimately forced to tap out in the first round.
Chiesa wants to get back in the win column but it won’t be easy against a younger, undefeated opponent like Sean Brady. Brady has fought four times under the UFC banner, winning two by decision and his last two in a row by submission. He is also a former Cage Fury FC welterweight champion.
Brady also holds the advantage in the grappling department – which doesn’t bode well for Chiesa who lost his last fight via first-round submission. Brady holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Daniel Gracie of the infamous Gracie family.
However, Chiesa will enter the cage as the bigger man, standing four inches taller and having a 3.5-inch reach advantage on the feet – and all fights start on the feet.
Rani Yahya | TALE OF THE TAPE | Kyung Ho Kang |
37 | Age | 34 |
5 ft. 6 in. | Height | 5 ft. 9 in. |
68 in. | Reach | 72 in. |
27-10-1, 1 no-contest | Record | 18-8, 1 no-contest |
MMA veteran Rani Yahya is just 1-1-1 over his last three fights but he is coming off of an impressive second-round submission win over Ray Rodriguez that took place this past March.
His opponent, Kyung Ho Kang, has won his last three in a row. But his last two victories came by way of a razor-thin split decision. The South Korean fighter also hasn’t fought since December 2019.
Yahya, three years older than Kang, holds a black belt in muay thai and a second-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu compared to Kang’s blue belt. To say Yahya has an advantage on the ground would be an understatement.
However, Kang has an exciting taekwondo style and will also have a four-inch reach advantage in the striking department. He is a former Road FC bantamweight champion and will also stand three inches taller on Saturday.
Oddsmakers have both fighters coming in at -110.
Joanne Calderwood | TALE OF THE TAPE | Taila Santos |
34 | Age | 28 |
5 ft. 6 in. | Height | 5 ft. 6 in. |
65.5 in. | Reach | 68 in. |
15-6 | Record | 18-1 |
Despite being ranked above her opponent on Saturday night, Joanne Calderwood will step into the octagon as the biggest betting underdog on the main card at +240.
The Scottish fighter is ranked at number six in the division although has gone just 3-3 over her last six fights. She most recently fought this past June at UFC 263. She took on Lauren Murphy and lost via split-decision. Murphy would go on to challenge for the championship.
Taila Santos, on the other hand, has won her last three fights in a row and has only one loss on her professional record. Ranked at number ten in the women’s flyweight division, Santos’ most recent victory came this past September: a unanimous decision victory over Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 266.
Known mostly for her striking, Calderwood has a professional kickboxing record of 19-2 but also holds a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The 28-year-old Santos holds a blue belt in the discipline.
These two women will stand at equal height but it will be Santos who will have the 2.5-inch reach advantage.
Davey Grant | TALE OF THE TAPE | Adrian Yanez |
35 | Age | 27 |
5 ft. 8 in. | Height | 5 ft. 7 in. |
69 in. | Reach | 70 in. |
13-5 | Record | 14-3 |
Davey Grant was riding a three-fight winning streak with back-to-back knockouts heading into his most recent bout against Marlon Vera this past June. Despite being awarded fight of the night honors, Grant would have his winning streak snapped as he lost the bout to Vera via unanimous decision.
Adrian Yanez is hoping to win his eighth fight in a row this Saturday. He’s currently on a seven-fight streak that includes four stoppages and three performance bonuses in a row. He most recently defeated Randy Costa via second-round TKO this past July. This will be his third fight of 2021.
Yanez’s streak is certainly impressive, and he comes into Saturday’s fight with the grappling advantage, holding a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (Davey Grant holds a purple belt). Yanez is also eight years younger than Grant and will have a one-inch reach advantage.
Yanez is the second-biggest favorite on the main card at -250.
