  • The WBA heavyweight title is on the line here
  • Trevor Bryan boasts an impressive 22-0-0 record
  • Daniel Dubois has knocked out all but two of his opponents

American Trevor Bryan makes the third defence of his WBA world heavyweight title when facing England’s Daniel Dubois in Miami this weekend.

This bout headlines a competitive card promoted by Don King, with the action shown on various major television stations and live streaming apps. The winner of Bryan v Dubois will pick up a respected title and catapult themselves up the world rankings and closer to the big names of the division, including Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

With the experienced and unbeaten champion up against the young, hungry and destructive challenger, this bout has caught the attention of fight fans on both sides of the Atlantic. But which big-punching heavyweight will come out on top? Will the title be travelling back with Bryan to New York or boarding a plane with Triple D to London?

The fight winner betting market is the most simple and popular gambling method in professional boxing, but it’s not the only option open to fight fans. The best of the rest comes from the method of victory market that challenges you to predict a winning fighter and how they will achieve the result, by knockout or on points. That’s where you’ll find the value, and that’s where this big fight preview focuses our attention.

Trevor Bryan vs Daniel Dubois Pick

Daniel Dubois in rounds 1-6 (-500)

Trevor Bryan Vs Daniel Dubois

Daniel Dubois enters the most important fight of his career to date with a professional record detailing 17 wins against one defeat, with 16 victories scored inside the distance and one KO/TKO loss. The spare was inflicted by Joe Joyce in London back in November 2020 in a bout that saw the Juggernaut win convincingly, scoring a 10th round stoppage.

Since that shock defeat to Joyce, we have seen Triple D fight only twice, blowing both opponents out of the water in the opening rounds. He got rid of Bogdan Dinu inside two rounds in Telford before making his American debut in Cleveland last time out. That bow stateside ended in an emphatic first-round TKO over Joe Cusumano – a perfect way to promote his skills to a new audience.

Fight fans in the US have only seen a brief glimpse of what Dubois is capable of, but the Englishman has an all-action style that will appeal to an American audience. He has lightning speed and knockout power in both hands, so we expect him to be a real fans’ favourite, and at just 24 years old, he has time on his side and will only get better.

Fitness Remains a Concern

The main worry for Dubois backers is their man has fought less than three competitive rounds since being taken out in 10 by Joyce. He is a victim of his own power and hasn’t yet gone the 12-round distance, so his stamina and fitness remain a doubt. How will he stand up to an opponent that can take his power and come back fighting? We got the answer to that question in the Joyce defeat.

Taking the frightening power of Dubois and dealing with his increased skill, speed and work rate is easier said than done, and it takes a skilled operator like Juggernaut to achieve it. The question we must ask ourselves here is Bryan at that level. We don’t believe so and are backing Dynamite Dubois to win this inside the opening six rounds.

When DDD finds his range and begins to get his power shots off, there will only be one winner. The young challenger must be at his best to compete, but his KO average shows he is a danger from the opening bell and that constant worry of being taken out will prove to be the champion’s undoing.

Trevor Bryan vs Daniel Dubois Prediction

Trevor Bryan is an unbeaten champion who is more experienced than his opponent and carries knockout power of his own. He will look to weather the early storm that will undoubtedly be thrown at him by the Englishman, knowing the longer this fight goes, the more chance he will have of claiming victory and defending his title.

Bryan enters with a 22-0-0 record with 15 KOs already marked on his card. He stopped Bermane Stiverne in round 11 – the first man to take a prime Deontay Wilder the distance – and nicked a split decision against Jonathan Guidry earlier this year. Bryan is a worthy champion and step up from what Dubois has been facing recently.

If the champion can take this bout into the second half and start to test the fitness of his opponent, he will be in a great position to snatch an upset. To achieve that, he must be tight with his defence in the opening six rounds, giving nothing away and making no mistakes. That takes a lot of effort and perfect concentration, and although that’s possible, it’s a big ask.

Dubois will start fast, looking to get his big shots off, and when he lands – which he inevitably will do – we’re not sure the champion will be able to deal with it. DDD is a ruthless finisher who isn’t in the habit of giving opponents second chances.
