Back Bayern Munich to win both halves. Hertha Berlin have been known to pull a result out of the bag, but Bayern should prove too strong this weekend.
Borussia Dortmund delivered one of their best displays of the season last weekend. Freiburg are tricky opponents and have emerged as the surprise package in the Bundesliga this term, but BVB made light work of Christian Streich’s side. A 5-1 thrashing on Friday moved Dortmund to within three points of the top spot in the Bundesliga. Having lost to Borussia Monchengladbach the previous week, Bayern Munich were under pressure to reestablish their six-point lead at the summit of the standings.
They did exactly that with a minimum of fuss. Robert Lewandowski was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick as Bayern beat Koln 4-0. Two days later, the Poland international was crowned the FIFA Best Men’s Player for last year. Having one of the greatest strikers of the modern era on your side would get most teams out of a hole; for Bayern, he is just one of several top-class attackers.
But for as long as the gap at the top of the division stands at six points or fewer, the title race cannot be considered over. It would be a massive shock if Bayern did not get the job done from here. They are clearly the strongest and most consistent team in the division, and in Julian Nagelsmann, they have one of the world’s brightest coaches. Dortmund are within touching distance, though, and another unexpected Bayern slip-up would allow Marco Rose’s charges to close the gap further.
Bayern are unlikely to stumble on Sunday, but no one really saw their previous setbacks coming either. Nagelsmann’s team have lost to Eintracht Frankfurt, Augsburg, and Borussia Monchengladbach; none of those defeats were predicted in advance. Occasional slip-ups are inevitable, but Bayern will only miss out on the Bundesliga title if they shoot themselves in the foot too often. With 15 games to play, Nagelsmann must guard against complacency.

Hertha Berlin have grown accustomed to lording it over their local rivals. Union Berlin were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2019. They secured an impressive 11th-place finish in their debut campaign at the top table, with Hertha edging them out in 10th spot thanks to a superior goal difference. Last term, though, it was Union in the ascendancy. They qualified for the Europa Conference League, while Hertha only narrowly avoided relegation to the second tier.
It does not look like that was a one-off. Going into the weekend, Union are once more riding high in the Bundesliga, with fourth-placed Hoffenheim ahead of them on goal difference alone. It still seems unlikely, but as things stand Union are right in the mix for the Champions League. Eight places below them sit Hertha, who are just four points clear of the bottom two. Try as they might, Hertha just cannot seem to pull clear of the relegation zone.
Inconsistency continues to undermine their efforts to climb into mid-table. Hertha beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in December, four days after a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Mainz. They lost their first three games of the season, won their next two, then lost 6-0 to RB Leipzig. Hertha are in danger of becoming the Bundesliga’s biggest boom-and-boost side.
The jury is still out on the manager, Tayfun Korkut, who had been out of work for almost four years before he took charge at the Olympiastadion at the end of November. Hertha’s squad is good enough to stay in the division, but they must become more consistent if they are to avoid a relegation fight that goes down to the wire.

The odds on a straightforward Bayern Munich win in the Bundesliga are seldom worth taking. It is wise to look for combination bets whenever the German champions are in action. On this occasion, the best pick is Bayern to win both halves, which Draft Kings price at +150.
Bayern will want to make a fast start, as they often have this season. They have scored 30 goals in the first half of their matches – nine more than Hertha Berlin have notched in total. In each of their last three league outings, Bayern have taken the lead within the first 18 minutes. They will hope to do the same against a Hertha side who have been behind at half-time in three of their last four games.
Hertha will probably avoid relegation to the 2. Bundesliga. Greuther Furth will almost certainly finish bottom, and there would then be just one automatic spot to avoid. This weekend, though, Hertha will struggle to pick up a positive result. Back Bayern to win both halves at the Olympiastadion.
