Best MLB Bets Today: Midwestern Matchups Highlight Today’s Slate of Games

Best MLB Bets Today: Twins vs. Brewers

This is our favorite bet of the day for a couple of reasons. First is the Brewers' new and improved offense. The addition of Jackson Churio at the top of the lineup has allowed Christian Yelich to slot into the third spot, and the results have been fantastic. Churio has been seeing the ball well and stealing bases, while Yelich looks like the MVP he once was. We aren’t sure if it’ll continue for the length of the season, but they will stay hay tonight.

The other reason we like this bet is Brewers’ starter Jakob Junis. The reliever turned spot-starter has a 4.64 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP in his career. Those numbers are bad for a reliever or a starter but just barely good enough to stay in the big leagues. Minnesota’s offense will have no problem figuring Junis out, and the result will be a high-scoring slugfest.

Brewers ML (-115 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

On top of the over, we also see Milwaukee winning their home opener. They have looked like the better team in the first few days of the season, and their stadium is home to one of the craziest opening-day atmospheres in the league. 

The Twins may jump on Junis, but the Brewers will do their own damage. The difference will then come down to the two bullpens, and Milwaukee’s is arguably the best in the league, even without Devin Williams available.

Best MLB Bets Today: Rockies vs. Cubs

Cubs -1.5 (+110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

We have a mismatch on the mound in this game. On one side is Kyle Freeland, who will get the start for Colorado. The veteran had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2023, finishing with a 5.03 ERA. While some of that can be attributed to playing in Colorado, he hasn’t had much more success on the road. His first start of the year came in Arizona, and he gave up ten runs over 2 1/3 innings.

While the Cubs have a new look, we saw how good they can be in their 9-5 win against the Rangers. They have the potential to score a lot of runs, and they’ll have a great chance to do that tonight against a Freeland.

Chicago will send Javier Assad to the mound tonight. The 26-year-old played his first full season in the Big Leagues last year, finishing with a 3.05 ERA. He worked mostly out of the bullpen but also made ten starts. He has the stuff to be a reliable piece of the Cubs rotation for the next few seasons. 

Given that the Rockies lineup isn’t great when outside of Coors Field, we see Assad and the Cubs bullpen will have no problem keeping them quiet. Look for this game to get ugly quickly, leading to a multi-run win for the Cubbies.
