The Braves have the better lineup, but the Cubs will be able to compensate for that on the mound tonight. Chicago will have new ace Shota Imanaga (5-0, 1.08 ERA) on the mound against the Braves. The 30-year-old has been nearly perfect in his first season in the MLB, allowing just five runs across seven starts. Imanaga’s success has come against some great lineups, meaning he won’t shy away from a great Braves team.
Atlanta has no shortage of offensive talent, but Ronald Acuna Jr. (.252 BA, 3 HR, 10 RBI) has looked very different than he did during his 2023 NL MVP campaign. The Braves star looked like he was turning things around at the beginning of May, but he has gone cold yet again. Acuna will bounce back, but it won’t happen tonight with Imanaga on the mound.
Atlanta will start Reynaldo Lopez (2-1, 1.53 ERA) opposite Imanaga tonight. The long-time reliever has thrived as a starter in 2024, but his career numbers suggest a regression is coming soon. Considering that the Cubs lineup has gotten a couple of crucial bats back, we think that regression begins tonight.

The Nationals have outperformed expectations so far in 2024. The team has kept their record hovering around the .500 mark. One of the reasons for their success will be on the mound tonight in Trevor Williams (4-0, 1.96 ERA, 1.06 WHIP). The 32-year-old is having the best season of his career across seven starts, and we like him to keep rolling tonight.
Williams hasn’t been allowed to work deep into games, but he’s been fantastic. Aside from a three-run game against the A’s, the righty has allowed two or fewer runs in his six other starts. He’s been especially good of late, currently riding a 12-innings shutout streak that includes starts against the Orioles and Rangers. The White Sox offense is nowhere near as talented as those two teams, setting up Williams well to extend his scoreless streak in this one.
Don’t look now, but the White Sox have actually been playing well over the last two weeks. They are coming off a series win against the AL Central-leading Guardians, thanks mainly to their pitching. Tonight’s starter Chris Flexen (2-3, 4.29 ERA) is one of the pitchers helping field the White Sox run. The veteran righty was terrible to open the season but has turned things around.
Over his last three starts, Flexen is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA. We see Flexen’s hot streak being extended tonight as he faces a Nationals team that ranks twenty-second in batting average (.229) and runs scored (158).
