Coming into this season, Chris Sale’s (13-3, 2.6 ERA, 0.92 WHIP) career seemed to be just about over. Instead, the 35-year-old is having his best campaign since 2018, leading the league in wins while ranking second in WHIP, fourth in ERA, and fifth in strikeouts. We expect him to improve on all those numbers against the Brewers tonight.
While Milwaukee has been one of the top offensive teams in the league, the loss of Christian Yelich is having a massive impact. This is still a dangerous lineup, but they are struggling to replace Yelich in the third spot in the order. Those struggles will be on full display tonight as they face a red-hot Chris Sale, who has not allowed more than two runs in a start since June 1.
Another reason we like Atlanta to win tonight is that Freddy Peralta (6-6, 3.94 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) will be on the mound for Milwaukee. The 28-year-old has had an incredible career with the Crew, but he has struggled as the team’s ace in 2024. After starting the season strong, he has posted an ERA over 4.00 in three consecutive months.
Peralta is coming off his worst start of the season. He allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and five walks over 5 1/3 innings. That came against a Marlins team that ranks twenty-ninth in runs scored. While injuries have hammered the Braves lineup, they still have more than enough talent to get to a struggling Peralta tonight.

The stage is set for some major fireworks in Philadelphia tonight. That is primarily because of the pitching matchup, which features two struggling starters.
On one side is Yankees’ starter Nestor Cortes (4-9, 4.13 ERA, 1.21 WHIP). The lefty started the season strong, but he has been downright awful in July. In his last three starts, he has allowed 15 runs over 13.1 innings, an ERA of 10.31.
The Phillies lineup has been struggling a bit since the All-Star break, but this is still a great lineup. They are sixth in the league in runs scored and fourth in batting average, showing they have the tools to hammer a floundering Cortes tonight.
Philadelphia will turn to Cristopher Sanchez (7-6, 3.05 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) to start against New York tonight. The 27-year-old is having the best season of his career, but he has struggled a bit in July, posting a 5.82 ERA over four starts. He’s lucky that number isn’t higher, given his 1.60 WHIP this month.
The Yankees also struggled in returning from the All-Star break, but they have woken up over the last few games. That rebound is primarily due to Aaron Judge once again heating up. The Yankees slugger has gotten a hit in five straight games, going deep several times.
