The Brewers’ offense has woken up over their last few games, and they will be set up for another impressive outing today with Mitch Keller (11-11, 4.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). The veteran was fantastic for the Buccos over the first few months of the season but has been falling apart since then.
Since August 1, Keller has gone 1-6 with a 6.92 ERA. The righty is coming off one of his worst outings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits and five walks over 3 1/3 innings. That came against a Reds team that has been far less effective at the plate than the Brew Crew.
Keller was fantastic against the Brewers at home back May, but he is no longer the same pitcher. Given his steady decline over the season's final two months, it appears the Pirates starter’s arm may be dead.
The Brewers will be trotting Aaron Civale (7-9, 4.53 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) out to the mound today. The veteran has turned his season around since being traded to the Crew, going 5-3 with a 3.84 ERA. However, he has not looked as sharp in September, posting a 4.12 ERA and failing to last more than 5 ⅓ innings.
In addition to his shaky September, Civale has also struggled to perform on the road this season. He is 2-3 with a 6.34 ERA on the road this season, an issue that has not improved since being traded to Milwaukee. The Pirates lineup isn’t overly impressive, but they have enough talent to take advantage of Civale’s road woes this afternoon.

The Padres have been one of the best teams in baseball since the All-Star break. One reason for their success has been Joe Musgrove (6-5, 3.95 ERA, 1.19 WHIP), who will be on the mound tonight. Musgrove had a rough start three weeks ago against the Giants, but he has not allowed a run in his three other starts this month.
Musgrove is riding a 12-game scoreless streak, including outings against the Giants and White Sox. He will face far more of a challenge in the Dodgers tonight, but his .209 OBA this month suggests he is up to the challenge.
Even if Musgrove struggles, the Padres offense will win them this game. They’ll be facing Walker Buehler (1-6, 5.63 ERA, 1.58 WHIP) tonight, who has been bad since returning from the IL on August 14. Since then, he is 0-2 with a 5.44 ERA. His last outing was one of his worst, allowing a bad Rockies lineup to tag him for four runs over 5 ⅓ innings at home.
The Padres lineup continues to be one of the best in baseball, and that hasn’t changed in September. They are averaging 4.4 runs per game over 19 games this month. That is bad news for the struggling Buehler, who will be in for a short and rough outing tonight.
