The first of our first-inning total bets for Tuesday in Major League Baseball comes from the NL East matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. In that game, we like at least one run to be scored in the first, as both teams have plenty of hitters who can deliver that run. Combine that with some woeful starting pitching from the visitors, and we should see some early fireworks in Queens.
Ranger Suarez is on the mound to start this game for the Phillies, and he has been simply dreadful in his short time on the mound this season. In 11 innings of work, Suarez has allowed 12 earned runs, including five in his last start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. All three of his appearances so far this year have seen a team score in the first inning, and we should see that continue in this game.
Meanwhile, the offense of the New York Mets is capable of putting up runs in a hurry, thanks in large part to Pete Alonso. Alonso leads the majors in home runs, having clubbed 20 homers coming into Tuesday’s action. He is a likely candidate to put the Mets on the board in the bottom of the first inning in this rivalry game.

We have another YRFI bet on our card for Tuesday night, as the Washington Nationals take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers should be a threat to score in the bottom of the first inning of this game, after both teams failed to break through in the opening frame on Monday. With Jake Irvin on the mound for the Nationals, the Dodgers will be much more dangerous in the bottom of the first here.
So far this season, Irvin has posted an ERA of 5.32, and has 16 walks allowed in 22 innings of work. His inability to control his pitches is going to give the Dodgers a chance to score early and often in this matchup. That will start with the first inning, as the dangerous top of the Dodgers order is likely to have runners in scoring position right from the start of this matchup.
Los Angeles’ offense consists of a top-two of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, which is dangerous for even the best pitchers in baseball. Against a pitcher who lacks control, though could be even more dangerous, as putting them on the base paths sets up hitters like Max Muncy to drive them in with their power. That is what we anticipate happening in this battle of NL East vs NL West teams.

Our final first-inning total bet for Tuesday is a NRFI bet in the game between the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners. There are two very good starting pitchers going in this game, as Nestor Cortes and Logan Gilbert get the start for their respective sides. While Cortes struggled at the end of his last start against the Baltimore Orioles, he started that game well, and should do so again here.
Interestingly enough, Gilbert was the opposite from Cortes in his last start, as he got off to a rough start against the Oakland Athletics. He then shut the A’s out after giving up two first-inning runs, going deep into that contest. Look for Gilbert to keep things rolling after that quality start against the lowly A’s.
Cortes, meanwhile, should revert to his more typical form after that horror show of an inning against the Orioles last time out. Baltimore was simply on fire in that inning no matter who was on the mound, as they scored eight runs against multiple Yankee pitchers in that frame. Here, he will throw a scoreless first to set the tone as he looks to return to form in what should be a very exciting pitching duel in the Pacific Northwest.
