Dodgers vs Brewers Prediction
Brewers’ starter Wade Miley has had a fantastic start to the season, but that will change today. Current Dodgers have a combined .307 batting average over 101 at-bats against Miley, meaning they see him well. This is especially true for Mookie Betts, who owns a .563 batting average against the veteran starter. Combine that with the fact that the Brewers' offense has been struggling, and you get a recipe for an easy Dodgers run line cover.
Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions
The Dodgers (22-15) come into today looking for their fourth consecutive series win. They have been on fire over the last two weeks, winning nine of their previous eleven games. That includes a win last night over the Brew Crew. Their run has been impressive, with sweeps of the Cardinals and Phillies followed by a critical series win against the Padres. They are clearly on the charge and will keep that going with their long-time ace on the mound today.
Clayton Kershaw (5-2, 2.53 ERA) will take the mound for the Dodgers tonight. He has been fantastic again this season, but he’s coming off his worst start of 2023. He gave up four earned runs, eight hits, and five walks over 4 ⅔ innings. It was an unusual stat line, especially considering the high walk total. Kershaw had walked five total batters in all of 2023 before that, signaling this was a blip on the radar. The veteran will be facing a Brewers lineup he has dominated over his career. Add that to the fact that the Brewers' offense has become streaky (at best), and you have a recipe for an easy win for Kershaw.
LA’s offense had been coming alive in May. It was sparked after they put up a whopping 36 runs in three games against the Phillies. It is no surprise, given the talent of this Dodgers’ lineup. A reason for their slow start has been Mookie Betts, who took a while to get going in 2023. He had a home run against the Brewers last night and now has multi-base hits in back-to-back games. He will be set up well to add to that total, given his .563 career average against Miley. Watch out for shortstop Chris Taylor, who has a .417 batting average over the last week. He has been on fire, which should continue, as he owns a .385 batting average against Miley.
Milwaukee Brewers Predictions
After surging to a 14-5 record to start the season, the wheels have come off for the Brewers (20-16). They have gone 6-11 since then, including bad series losses to the Tigers, Rockies, and Giants. Milwaukee was able to take the first game of the series, but they looked lost last night. Now they’ll be up against a pitcher that has dominated most of the hitters in their lineup. On top of that, they’ll have a starter on the mound with a history of being shelled by this brutal LA lineup. Both factors are why we love the Dodgers' run line today.
Wade Miley (3-1, 2.31 ERA) will get the start for the Crew today. He has been one of the best pitchers in the league in 2023, ranking ninth in the league in ERA. It’s been incredible, considering the veteran is now 36 years old and missed almost all of the 2022 season. His ability to generate weak contact makes him a frustrating pitcher to face, unless you’re the Dodgers. The Dodgers have a combined .307 batting average against Miley, and their bats will be confident after putting up a significant number against the Brewers last night. Expect Miley to struggle for the first time this season and for the Dodgers to cruise to victory.
The Brewers' offense has become a bit of a mystery. After a strong start, they have been unable to generate runs consistently. They put up nine runs against the Dodgers in game one but couldn't get anything going last night. During their recent six-game losing streak, they managed a combined 14 runs (2.33 runs per game). If that wasn’t bad enough, they will be up against a familiar foe in Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers ace has been excellent this season, and the Brewers lineup owns a combined .159 batting average against him. That is what we call a recipe for disaster, making the Dodgers' run line the best bet.
