The Cincinnati Reds will square off against the Baltimore Orioles for the first time this season,
which will begin the three-game series from Camden Yards in Baltimore. This is expected to be a must-watch series between two teams that have been performing much better than most believed they would at this point in the season. The first pitch for Monday’s contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Cincinnati comes into this one hot off of a twelve-game winning streak, improving their record to 15-8 in the month of June. Since their last win against the Braves, which was their 12th consecutive victory, they dropped two straight games to Atlanta. The Reds are bringing out left-handed pitcher Brandon Williamson to start on Monday. Williamson will be making his eighth start of the season after coming off a win against the Rockies last Monday.
Baltimore comes into the week with the third-best record in all of baseball and a 12-8
record in the month of June. Fresh off of two consecutive wins over the Mariners, the Orioles
will look to make it three in a row. Baltimore is putting left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin on the
mound for his sixth start of the season. Irvin’s last start was June 16th against the Cubs,
where he was beaten up and earned a loss on the night.
Cole Irvin has been very disappointing thus far, and coming into a game against one of the
hottest teams in the league will make it tough to get on track. Irvin will face a Reds offense that ranks ninth in the league with 385 runs while batting .257 as a team. We have a hard time seeing a reason why the Reds are underdogs in this game, so take them to win on the road in Baltimore.
Williamson gets the start for the Reds, and this will be his eighth of the season. He is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA and has 27 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched. The left-hander’s most recent time out was on Monday against the Colorado Rockies, where he threw five innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits. We wouldn’t say he has been solid, but he has given the Reds a chance
to walk away with a victory every time he has taken the ball.
Irvin will make his sixth start of the year. He is 1-3 with a 7.71 ERA and has 24 strikeouts through 23.1 innings pitched. This left-hander last popped up in relief on Wednesday when he threw one inning against Tampa Bay, allowing one earned run on two hits. Irvin’s time in Baltimore has not been very good so far as he has yet to make a quality start in 2023.
The Reds have the ninth-ranked scoring offense in the league and have shown no signs of slowing down. While record-wise, the Orioles are the superior team, we believe that Irvin will not have what it takes to slow down the steaming-hot Cincinnati Reds. This could easily turn into a shootout, but with the Reds’ hot bats this month, we expect them to come out victorious in this one.
One of the biggest stories in baseball lies in the hands of the Reds after their incredible 12-game winning streak that completely turned their season around. As of now, the Reds stand at the top of the NL Central, just one game up on the Brewers. This division is tightly contested where every team is within nine games of the top, so at this point, it’s anyone’s to win.
Cincinnati has all the talent to keep this miracle month rolling in the right direction, but
they will need their bullpen to step up and lend a helping hand. There is absolutely no problem
at the plate, as the Reds have the 10th-best batting average in the majors (.257). Elly De La Cruz has electrified the offense, and we don’t see this stopping.
Baltimore is 4.5 games back of the Rays in the AL East, sitting in second place. The Orioles have one of the most well-rounded teams in all of baseball. Baltimore hit 94 homers this season, which puts them in 10th in the league in that category. Scoring runs is not a problem as they also have a top-ten offense when it comes to runs.
Irvin’s poor pitching is manageable because of Baltimore’s talent. However, they need some help from their starter on Monday, and it could be tough to find. This Orioles team seems to be far from falling back in their division, but it will be tough to win the AL East. Nevertheless, they are poised for a deep playoff run.
