The task of taking on the LA Galaxy in their first ever home game will be a bit too big for Charlotte FC. The new expansion side is just getting used to things and will need time to adjust.
They are playing at home for the first time, and the fans will be backing them from start to end. However, the difference in quality in both squads is contrasting, and thus the away side is expected to pick up an easy win.
Both sides struggled in their opening game in front of the goal. While LA Galaxy did manage to squeeze in a late winner, Charlotte crumbled to a big loss. The away side is predicted to register a win by over two goals and could also keep a clean sheet.
The first match at home will be a big event for Charlotte FC, but they will not find it easy to handle. Miguel Angel Ramirez’s men will not need extra motivation on Saturday, but their opponents usually rise to the occasion.
The side from Queen City did make an excellent start to the opening game but let their heads drop after VAR ruled out an early goal. Titi Ortiz had the ball in the back of the net in the 19th minute but got ruled out for offside after review.
They did not manage to recover, and DC United ran out 3-0 winners at the Audi Field. Michael Estrada scored twice in the first half on his debut and helped them go into halftime with a comfortable lead. Ola Kamara sealed the win for the side from Washington within a minute of coming on to get three points in the bag.
Charlotte players did impress in the game as they did not sit back despite the goals. However, their forwards could not convert the chances created and they ended up losing the game despite dominating possession.
Ramirez will be hoping for more of the same on Saturday but with a little more finesse. He is expected to name the same starting XI again.
However, if he is to make changes, Yordy Reyna could be the one making way for Jordy Alcivar.
LA Galaxy are the most decorated side in Major League Soccer history but are on a trophy drought. They have not won the MLS Cup since 2014 and will be desperate to bring the title back to Carson.
Greg Vanney’s side made a winning start to the season against New York City FC, thanks to a 90th-minute strike by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez.
The Mexican weaved through the City defense at the Dignity Health Sports Park to slot home the winner. The former Manchester United star had scored five goals in his first two games last season and will be keen on matching that record again.
New signing Douglas Costa made his MLS debut last week, and he will be one of the players to watch out for. The Brazilian impressed on his debut but did not manage to get a goal or an assist.
Vanney has a star-studded side this season, and anything less than a top 2 finish would be a surprise.
LA Galaxy finished outside the playoff places in the Western Conference last season, but it was just on goal difference. They ended the season with a negative four GD and thus missed out on the 7th spot in the table to Real Salt Lake.
