How Can the Warriors Beat the Celtics?

The Golden State Warriors can’t afford to get out to a poor start when they face the Celtics in Game 4. Considering their struggles to contain the Boston Celtics’ offence, the Warriors need to remain competitive on the scoring end through four quarters.

The Golden State Warriors lost the first and fourth quarters by a combined 33 to 56. They were more than competitive in the middle of the game, but their inability to remain consistent on both ends for four quarters has been an issue.

Stephen Curry has been their best player, and Klay Thompson even stepped up for them in Game 3. However if they can’t find other players to provide production on both ends, the Celtics will be too much for them to handle.

Warriors Key Player: (F) Andrew Wiggins

Canadian international Andrew Wiggins has been playing well through the Warriors’ 2022 NBA Playoffs run. However in his last game, a loss to the Celtics, he came up just short of a strong showing due to his poor shooting.

As a whole, Wiggins’ stat line looks more than decent. He posted 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in 40 minutes of play. He shot 7 of 16 from the field, but it was his 1 of 6 night from three that doomed the Warriors.

Wiggins needs to be more than just an option in transition for the Warriors, he needs to find production in Golden State’s half court offence. Not much of an individual creator, the ability to keep Boston honest from range will open up Golden State’s entire game.

How Can the Celtics Beat the Warriors?

Compared to many teams in the NBA, the Boston Celtics don’t come across as any bigger than anyone else. However, against Golden State’s small line-up, the Celtics are particularly strong in the paint. That advantage powered their Game 3 victory over the Warriors.

In their Game 3 victory over the Golden state Warriors, the Boston Celtics dominated the paint. They won the rebounding battle 47 to 31, even winning on the offensive glass 15 to 6. Boston was almost unchallenged at the rim, converting on 30 of 54 two-point field goal attempts.

Boston must continue to take advantage of their size against the Warriors. So long as it doesn’t compromise their ability to defend the perimeter, the Celtics need to keep pressing their advantage.

Celtics Key Player: (G) Jaylen Brown

While the headlines are giving the praise to Jayson Tatum, it has been Jaylen Brown who has helped the Celtics off to their tremendous starts. His fantastic two-way play over the series’ first three games has set the tone for Boston’s play.

Brown finished Game 3 with a team-high 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. He was an efficient 9 of 16 from the field while also converting on 4 of his 8 three-point field goal attempts.

The Celtics looked all but guaranteed to win Game 3 after Brown went for 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field in the first quarter. If he can get involved in the game early, the Warriors don’t seem to have the firepower to keep up.
