The end of a huge and wild Week One of the 2023 NFL Season is set for an enormous matchup as the Buffalo Bills will go on the road to take on the New York Jets. The Jets are coming into a new era led by 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers to potentially push the team to their second-ever Super Bowl. Buffalo are going into this game as a two-point favorite as they are a more experienced Super Bowl-ready team.
Last season, the Bills had the second-ranked scoring offense averaging 28.4 points per game. Quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stefon Diggs attempt to replicate the success and productivity of the Bills’ offense. The biggest problem the offense possesses is that they stand in their way, especially in the abandonment of the run game.
The Jets are coming into this 2023 NFL Season with the same mentality to dominate on the defensive side of the ball. The Jets allowed an average of 18.9 points per game, which was ranked fourth in the league. Much of the success can be given to the Jets' ability to stop the opposing passing game with their pass rush or their secondary.
Offensively, the Jets needed a much-improved philosophy change at quarterback former second-overall pick in Zach Wilson is not physically or mentally ready to lead the Jets to a successful season. The Jets finished the 2022 NFL Season with the 29th-ranked scoring offense in the league averaging 17.4 points per game. It didn’t help that they lost their rookie running back Breece Hall.
The future is bright for the Jets’ offense as the trade for Rodgers, getting his reliable receivers, and developing their youth could help them build an elite offense. The biggest concern for the Jets remains at the offensive line as age, injury concerns and inconsistencies are potentially easy downfalls for the Jets’ offense. The Bills look to exploit the weakness at the offensive line of the Jets with their pass rush as they accounted for 40 sacks last season. The Bills, however, lost some serious talent on the defensive side of the ball.
This game could easily go into the final minute as every game matters in a loaded AFC, especially in the AFC East.
