The Cards have scored 14 or fewer points in two consecutive games
Fred Warner is likely to miss the game on Sunday
Jordan Mason is averaging 4.9 YPC this season
The NFC West matchup features two regional rivals as the Arizona Cardinals visit the San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals enter Week 5 looking to recapture their form from their first two games, while the Niners are coming off a badly needed blowout win. While the spread is sizeable, don’t be surprised if this ends up being one of the more exciting games of the weekend.

Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Arizona Cardinals | -7 (-110) | +278 | Over 49.5 (-110) |
San Francisco 49ers | +7 (-110) | -355 | Under 49.5 (-110) |
The Cardinals are coming off their worst game of the season as they continue to struggle on offense. After a hot start, Kyler Murray has cooled off, leading to scoring 14 or fewer points in two straight games. That includes last week, when they only managed 14 against a horrible Washington defense.
The Niners' defense will present Arizona with a more significant challenge this week. Even with Fred Warner likely to miss the game, the unit has the talent and experience to play with anyone in the league. Murray knows that as well as anyone, throwing for just 211 yards and two interceptions against the Niners last season.
Last week, we saw the Cardinals' defense look completely lost against a young Washington offense. That is a bad sign as they prepare to face an elite Niners offense that will have George Kittle and Deebo Samuel back on the field. Combine that with a breakout campaign from running back Jordan Mason, and you have a recipe for an impressive total on Sunday.
It is also worth mentioning that the Cardinals may be without kicker Matt Prater. Missing a kicker can make a massive difference, especially against team like the Niners.
This total is far too high, especially considering how the Cards' offense has looked over the last couple of weeks. The loss of Fred Warner cannot be understated, but Arizona doesn’t have the weapons to capitalize on his absence. The Niners may put up a big total, but another ugly offensive effort from the Cardinals will keep the total under 50.

Christian Who? 25-year-old Jordan Mason has been sensational with McCaffrey out, rushing for at least 100 yards in three of his four games this season. Look for him to thrive again on Sunday as he faces an Arizona team allowing the fifth-most rushing yards per game this season.
With Mason averaging 4.9 YPC and the Cards allowing 4.4 YPC, the young back will have no problem surpassing this high total.

Murray didn’t only rush once for three yards against Washington last week, and Arizona put up one of its ugliest offensive performances. Murray’s legs are what make him so dangerous, and the team will certainly be encouraging to use them tonight.
We talked about Warner being out already, but the Niners could be without another linebacker in Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles. A depleted linebacker core will mean more space for Murray to run, and he will capitalize to deliver a massive game on the ground.

The Cardinals have struggled on offense, but they have scored a touchdown on their first drive of all four games this season. That isn’t a coincidence; it is proof of how well they are scripting their opening drives. Their struggles have come afterward when they must call plays on the fly.
With Prater likely to miss the game or at least be hampered by injury, don’t be surprised if the Cards opt to go for it on the fourth all-game, including the opening drive.
