Before online sports betting became so prevalent, it wasn’t uncommon for workplaces to come together and have Super Bowl Squares.

But what are Super Bowl Squares, exactly?

In the workplace, you’d pay some money to play and be assigned two numbers. You’d then win money if the score at the end of each quarter, half, and the game ended with the two numbers you had.

For example, if you had 3 and 3, you would’ve won some money if the first quarter ended with a score of 3-3.

Today, online sportsbooks have adopted this workplace favorite, and here, we’ll take a deeper look at how to play it and more.

Where to Play Super Bowl Squares Online

Below, we’ll preview DraftKings Sportsbook and its squares offerings. Numerous other sportsbooks offer odds on the halftime score, but this isn’t quite the same as squares, but as close to it as you’ll find at non-squares online sportsbooks.

DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings offers squares as a standard bet type, offering odds on numerous combinations. Additionally, DraftKings is hosting a promotion called “Wrangler Big Game Squares.”

This contest has $40,000 in cash, and it pays out in the following ways:

  • 1st Quarter: $6,000

  • Halftime: $12,000

  • 3rd Quarter: $6,000

  • Full Time: $16,000

You can enter this contest on the promo page.

What Are Super Bowl Squares?

Super Bowl Squares are a wager in which you’ll select a combination of two numbers. You’ll win your wager if these two numbers are at the end of the score.

Using another example, if you bet on 7 and 0, you could win if the final score is 27-20, 17-10, etc.

How Do You Play Super Bowl Squares?

  • Find an online sportsbook that you’d like to play at that offers Super Bowl Squares.

  • Go to the homepage and select the NFL page.

  • Click on the game and scroll through the various betting options until you find Squares.

  • View the list of possible Squares combinations and odds for halftime and the final score.

  • Pick the one you wish to wager on and add it to your betslip.

  • Place your wager and wait for the result.

How to Pick Super Bowl Squares

When looking at the list of squares combinations, you’ll see the odds on each.

However, you can pick them while considering how points are scored in the NFL. The most common scores are field goals (three points) and touchdowns (six points and an extra point).

Thus, betting on something with a 5 could net you a lot of money, as that is unlikely to occur. That said, in Super Bowl LVII, the final score was 38-35, so it's not impossible.

What Are the Best Numbers for Super Bowl Squares?

If you look at NFL history, the three most common scores are the following:

  • 20-17 (282 times)

  • 27-24 (230 times)

  • 17-14 (200 times)

Based on that, you could wager on squares of 0:7 or 7:4, as these make up most of the final scores.

How Do You Win Super Bowl Squares?

Depending on your wager (halftime or the end of the game), you’ll win if the numbers you choose are the last digit of the score that corresponds with the team.

For example, if you bet on Chiefs 7:49ers 4 and the final score is 27-24 in favor of the Chiefs, you’d win your bet on a full game wager.

Super Bowl Squares Payouts

If you’re betting on something like DK Squres, you’ll receive a payout like a typical wager based on the odds and how much you wager. For example, if the odds are +400 and you bet $100, you’d get $400 if you win.

You'll select a square for the DraftKings Wrangler contest, and this is your combo for the entire game. You’ll then receive a payout if your selection results in the first quarter, halftime, third quarter, or at the end of the game.

Super Bowl Squares Strategies

As seen from the most common final scores, you’ll want to try to get one of those as those are simply the most common final scores.

Additionally, you’ll want to avoid any combinations with a 2 or 5 because no Super Bowl has ever finished with a 2 and 5 at the end of the final score.
