My Pick: Dallas Stars (DAL)

The first match-up with the night is set for a game between Central Division rivals the Dallas Stars (24-11-5) hosting the Nashville Predators (22-18-1). This game would be the third match of this season between the two rivals as the series is split 1-1.

Dallas won the first matchup on December 23 with a 3-2 score in Dallas that featured multiple different scorers on both sides. Nashville got revenge on the road a few weeks later with a 4-3 score. Predators forward Filip Forsberg scored two goals while center Gustav Nyquist accounted for a goal and an assist. Stars forward Jason Robertson was the most efficient playmaker in the game, much like he has been all season, by accounting for one goal and an assist.

Dallas has a huge advantage on the offensive end of the ice as they are averaging 3.68 goals per game. Nashville, on the other hand, is averaging 3.1 goals per game (18th in the league).

The Stars also have the advantage defensively as they allow only an average of 3.03 goals per game (13th in the league) as opposed to the Predators, who allow an average of 3.17 goals per game (19th in the league).

The Stars are coming into this game after two huge wins over the Minnesota Wild with revenge on their mind versus their divisional rivals.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Minnesota Wild

My Pick: Philadelphia Flyers (PHI)

The final game of the night is set as the Philadelphia Flyers (21-14-6) go on the road to take on the Minnesota Wild (17-19-4). The Flyers are coming into this game as surprising underdogs despite having the much more efficient defense and the better momentum entering Friday night.

This will be the 2nd match of the season between the two teams as they previously met on October 26. Philadelphia dominated Minnesota with a 6-2 score at home as they outscored the Wild 3-0 in the first two periods. Flyers forward Bobby Brink scored two goals while defender Travis Sanheim accounted for a goal and two assists.

Philadelphia is ranked 25th in the league in goals per game (2.83), which is just one level lower than Minnesota, who averaged 2.88 goals per game. Their defense, however, is much more efficient and aggressive across the board. Minnesota, on the other, is ranked 22nd in the league in goals allowed per game (3.3) behind an aged goalie in Marc-Andre Fleury.

There is going to be some caution with looking for the Flyers to potentially when this big game on the road, but the Wild have yet to submit themselves as a consistent team even with a new coaching staff. Philadelphia has won two of the last three games played. Minnesota has only won one of the last seven games played as they are on a two-game losing streak by to the Dallas Stars twice with a combined score of 11-2.
