Best NHL Bets Today January 25

The NHL action tonight is all over the place in terms of the sports betting industry. There are going to be several projected blowouts tonight, but there are going to be some games that have great value in close matchups. These oddsmakers are giving great opportunities for fans of the NHL and casual bettors to potentially earn some great winnings tonight through DraftKings.

New York Islanders vs. Montreal Canadiens

My Pick: New York Islanders (NY)

Among the games that will be close in terms of odds is the Eastern Conference matchup between the New York Islanders (20-16-11) going on the road to take on the Montreal Canadien (19-21-7).

This game will be the second matchup of the season between the Canadians and the Islanders as the Canadians took a 5-3 win at home on December 16. Canadians for Josh Anderson accounted for two goals while Islanders center Brock Nelson also accounted for two goals. The Islanders attempted to come back in the third period by scoring three goals, but they couldn't overcome Montreal’s four goals in the second period.

Both the Islanders and the Canadians have struggled significantly in January. New York has only won three of the ten games played this month while Montreal has won four of the 11 games played. The defense of the Islanders has played well during the stint as opposed to the bad display of the offense. The Canadians, on the other hand, are getting blown out thanks to their poor inability to play defense.

Unlike the Canadians, the Islanders have more efficient star players. New York has three players that have accounted for 43 or more points this season. Center Matthew Barzal and defender Noah Dobson have accounted for 48 points, while center Bo Horvat has accounted for 43. These are stars that are going to make a significant difference in this matchup.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Detroit Red Wings

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook. Bet $5, snag $200 in bonus bets with DraftKings.

My Pick: Detroit Red Wings (DET)

One of only three matchups to feature teams with a winning record is set tonight as the Philadelphia Flyers (25-17-6) go on the road to take on the Detroit Red Wings (24-18-5). Something will have to give in this matchup between a stellar defense from the Flyers and a highly efficient offense from the Red Wings.

This game tonight will be the third match of this season between the two teams. Philadelphia took a 1-0 home win over Detroit on December 16, where they stalled an electrifying Red Wings offense. The Red Wings, however, got revenge six days later and a huge 7-6 shootout win in Detroit.

This matchup is likely not going to be either one of these previous games, but one efficient unit is going to have more trouble than the other tonight.

Philadelphia's defense ranks ninth in the league in goals allowed per game (2.85). They possess several great goalies and defenders who have been efficient for most of the season. The Flyers are on a three-game losing streak as they have combined to allow 18 goals in those three games.

Detroit possesses some of the most efficient and aggressive offensive players in the league. The Red Wings are ranked 5th in the league in goals per game (3.49) as a result of their stellar play. Despite grabbing the win, their offense has stalled lately in some key games.

There is more momentum coming from the Red Wings offense than the Flyers defense, giving Detroit a serious edge over Philadelphia in this matchup.
