This Thursday night is a huge night in the NHL, as some games could be Conference Championship preview games or Stanley Cup Finals preview games. These are games in which teams will depend on their star players and potential league MVPs to account for huge performances. These performances are great opportunities for significant earnings based on specific player prop bets.
Here are our favorite NHL player prop picks for Thursday.
The following odds are from DraftKings Sportsbooks, where NHL Prop Bets can be made.
Toronto Maples Leafs star center Auston Matthews is one of the most explosive playmakers in the NHL. Matthews continues to show that he is a legitimate candidate for league MVP as he performs at a high-level night in and night out for the Maple Leafs.
He has been able to account for two or more points in four of the last six games for Toronto. Matthews had a monster performance this past Tuesday night against the highly efficient defense of the New York Rangers. He accounted for two goals and two assists in the Maple Leafs’ 7-3 road win.
This Thursday night, Matthews will get another chance to dominate as the Maple Leafs go on the road to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets rank 29th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.5). This is a defense that has been consistently one of the worst in the league.

It is an MVP battle on Thursday night as more of the top players in the league look to make their statement this early in the season. One player who can make a statement as an individual and a team player is Edmonton Oilers star center Connor McDavid. The Oilers, who are over .500% for the first time this season, are looking to win their ninth consecutive game as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This game tonight is expected to be an offensive shootout, as both the Oilers and the Lightning are among the most productive offenses in the league. Meanwhile, their defenses are in the bottom half of the league. Tampa Bay’s defense is ranked 31st (second-to-worst) in the league in goals allowed per game (3.53).
McDavid has accounted for 38 points this season and is tied for fourth in the league in total assists accounted for (28). He has accounted for two or more points in seven of the last eight games, which is when the win streak started. The Oilers will turn to McDavid to create scoring opportunities for the offense.

The biggest matchup of the night is set for a huge Eastern Conference versus Western Conference game between the Florida Panthers and the Vancouver Canucks. Both the Canucks and the Panthers are ranked within the top five in scoring defense. Despite both teams possessing elite defenses, this game is projected to be one of the highest-scoring games of the night.
The Canucks possess the top-ranked scoring offense in the league, averaging 3.83 goals per game. The Panthers come into this game with a significant disadvantage as they are ranked 20th in the league in goals per game (3.04).
Florida will turn to their star center, Sam Reinhart, to help establish the offense. Reinhart is the team’s leader in points accounted for (37), goals scored (17) and assists accounted for (20). He is the driving force of the Panthers’ offense.
In the Panthers’ 5-3 home loss on October 21 versus the Canucks, Reinhart scored two goals. He will be the go-to player for the Panthers against the elite Canucks.
