Both the Colorado Avalanche and the Washington Capitals are going into tonight’s game with tough stretches of losing streaks. The Avalanche are coming into this game with the second-ranked scoring offense (3.66) despite only scoring six goals during their current four-game losing streak. They will have to take on the 13th-ranked scoring defense (3.02 goals allowed per game) of the Capitals.
The good news for Colorado is that the last time these two teams played on January 24, the Avalanche’s offense dominated the Capitals. The big three for Colorado had incredible performances.
Center Nathan MacKinnon accounted for four goals and one assist, forward Mikko Rantanen accounted for one goal and four assists, and defender Cale Makar accounted for one goal and two assists. It is expected that MacKinnon will contribute in a big way and Maker will make another offensive production.
Rantanen can take a game over if Washington’s defense can lock down MacKinnon. Having Rantanen as a 1B option for the offense puts the Avalanche in a great position.

It has been an up-and-down start from the NHL All-Star Break for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers suffered two losses in their three games after the break as they were outscored 7-1.
Their one victory was from a 5-3 comeback road win over the Anaheim Ducks this past Friday. In the game, forward Evander Kane completed his eighth-ever hat trick of three goals.
The Oilers look to regain some momentum when they return home to host the Detroit Red Wings. This game has the potential to be a high-scoring performance from both offenses, especially for Edmonton. Detroit’s defense allows an average of 3.22 goals per game (22nd in the league).
For the Oilers to get back in the groove of winning games, their offense needs to be able to get out of droughts. Kane can be the player to utilize for extra support in an offense where center Connor McDavid and center Leon Draisaitl are the main stars.
