Inter Milan vs. AC Milan Recap

Published by adam | Filed under Football (aka soccer), Miscellaneous

The Milan derby was indeed a big one for a chance to close the gap in the title race between the top Milan teams. With the 2-0 win, Internazionale sits alone with a 9 point cushion above rival AC Milan.

AC Inter

Inter, before the Wesley Sneijder send-off, dominated the game. Both teams had plenty of chances, and both goalies saw a decent amount of action. One of those days that nothing goes right for Milan and everything for Inter. Despite 67% ball possession Milan in simple terms could not find the back of the net. Shot after shot was miss hit and sent well over the bar.

Ronaldinho when he wants is the best; there is no doubt about that. However, he takes a bit of a bump, and loses focus in the mix of arguing with the ref. To add insult to injury, his injury time PK was saved by Julio Cesar.

Inter, the better team, finished the game with 9 men. Sneijder (27) and Lucio (90) were both shown red in a tough fault physical battle. In all, 39 fouls were called including 2 reds and 6 yellows.

Post game, Inter coach José Mourinho questions the integrity of Italian football and rubs it in for Milan fans …

”It was a strange game… I think we all understand that it was no coincidence that he showed the red card to Sneijder. I have realized that they are not going to allow us to wrap this title up. But we were perfect. We would have won this game even with seven men. Maybe with six we would have struggled, but we would have won with seven.”

Personally, I don’t like this comment. There are plenty of other ways to go about portraying the same point. Furthermore, Maicon showed he is one of the best divers in the game. Sulley Muntar is a better Gattuso than Gattuso himself. Sneijder was the best on the pitch up until he decided to run his mouth. Borriello showed the best life in a struggling Milan side driving headers left, right, and over the bars. Milan should have had a penalty much earlier as Ronaldinho tried to lift a ball over Maicon. The referee really made a mess of some miss called hand balls.

In the end, the deserving team won the match.
