Transfer Rumors: Rooney ends speculation

Well, that short lived story is over. Wayne Rooney ended recent speculation that the striker and his agent were considering to open negotiations over a potential move to Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid this Monday in a statement released on Manchester United’s official website. Rooney said:

“There’s always speculation, and when other big teams are talking about you, it’s nice that you’re talked about but as I’ve said many times before, I’m a United player and I’m very happy here. I hope we can win the title again this year,” he added. “We’ve won the league the last three years and nobody has ever won it four times in a row. We want to create history. The title race is much tighter this year and it’s probably more exciting for the neutrals or fans around the country. But we’re hoping that now we are top we can go on and remain there for the rest of the season.”

So like I said in Friday’s post regarding the recent transfer gossip, Rooney isn’t going anywhere. The Wonderboy is and, in my opinion, forever will be a Red Devil. What I think is interesting and should be noted by all is the class and loyalty Wayne has shown here. The initial plan of Team Rooney was to use the Premiership’s leading goal scorers’ highly productive season as leverage to ensure that he becomes United’s highest paid player come season end over defensive captain Rio Ferdinand. Then, much to the delight of his agents, Rooney turns in a career best 4-goal performance against Hull City right as the rumors start to heat up. But instead of using this to his advantage to strengthen his position, Rooney comes out and publicly puts to rest any speculation over him leaving, further showing how money is not what dictates his happiness. The man bleeds Red and Black and I salute Wayne for not succumbing to the evil that several footballers are so prone to doing. Keep doing what you’re doing Wayne and good things will continue to come your way.
