Key Transfers and Bans: Robinho to Santos, Mutu Fails Drug Test #2, Ferdinand Faces 4-Match Ban

Robinho frustration

Robinho

Robinho will leave for Brazil on Sunday, where he will settle his 6-month loan deal with
Santos SP. According to the Manchester City website, “Santos will assume all of the player’s contract terms, including wages and bonuses.” A big chunk should and maybe will be coming out of the pocket of Robinho, but hey, happiness first young lad. You can make money later. However, what happens on August 4th, after the 6 months are up?

Mancini was very forward with the Brazilian as Robinho explains, “the coach [Mancini] was very sincere with me and said that I would play every other match… I told him that would not be interesting to me, it’s a World Cup year.”

Santos, no doubt, will start the striker immediately where he will once again reign as king. Not to mention, be treated like one by coaches, players, fans alike. Santos star Neymar said: “The king of the dribblers could be a big success for us.” No shit Sherlock.

Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen

Gudjohnsen will be joining Harry Redknapp and crew at Tottenham for the remainder of the 2009-2010 season on loan from AS Monaco FC. The former Chelsea and Barcelona striker was linked to a move to West Ham United as both clubs made an identical offer and even went through a medical exam for West Ham, who is not happy about the decision. That is all.

MUTU

Adrien Mutu

Fiorentina Mutu has indeed failed the second drug test of his career according to the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). Sibutramine was found following a sample taken from Mutu after a game. Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant (weight loss) and is apparently extremely dangerous. Why Mutu was taking this, I am unaware. Anyways, Mutu could be facing a ban of 1-4 years in what could very well be his career. The forward failed his first drug test (2004) during his stint at Chelsea for traces of cocaine use and was fined £14.6 million for breach of contract. Whether he pays or not is questionable as Mutu was recently quoted, “I don’t have that sort of money.”

Rio+Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand faces a 4-match ban after appealing to let the defender play against Manchester City. Rio had previously lashed out at Hull City’s Craig Fagan with a 3-match ban. The following 4 games for Manchester United include Arsenal, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Everton, so that could prove rather costly.

Although, I think we all knew this was going to happen as Ferdinand was needed more to quiet the “noisy neighbors” after United’s defeat at the City of Manchester Stadium in the Carling Cup semi-final. In the meantime, Vidic is back to cause havoc in the United defense.

Gago2

Fernando Gago

El Pintita will not go to Manchester City, unless maybe they raise the offer of £10 million to £15 million. What is another £5 million anyways when you are on a spending spree with no budget? Gago is desperate for a move from the giants of Real Madrid as the World Cup approaches. The Argentine defensive midfielder sees little playing time in Bernabéu and does not want to fall out of the likes of Diego Maradona. Gago is ready to make the move to link up with Argentina international team-mates Carlos Tévez and Pablo Zabaleta, so we are waiting for Mancini’s response.

Rudd Van Nistelrooy

Meanwhile, all eyes in the Bundesliga are on former Real Rudd Van Nistelrooy. But it’s the Bundesliga. Come on.
