Newcastle United Back in the Premier League
Published by adam | Filed under Championship, Football (aka soccer)

Just after one year in the Championship, Newcastle United (26-11-4) is back in the big league.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will permit a summer spending spree in order to consolidate survival in the Premier League. Currently, the club is loosing roughly £500,000 a week while in the Championship after a £25m investment by Ashley. Manager Chris Hughton will be allowed to spend, but must spend wisely through a £20m to £25m budget. Promotion to the Premier League will bring in £50m or even as much as £60m, depending on attendances at St James’ Park but only about half of that will be used for recruitment as Ashley is expected to take back his investment.
Newcastle has been promoted with five games to play and have proved themselves to be better than the Championship. The question remains, are they good enough for the Premiership? Anyways, changes will be made as players will come and go during the off-season.
Maybe the stint in the Championship has taught the players and fans that being a “big club” is not a given. Look for rowdy fans and physical play next season as The Magpies look to establish themselves.
Nonetheless, after securing their promotion, Newcastle is still focused on winning the Championship title. They have 89 points with a game-in-hand to West Bromwich Albion at 83.

It was always going to happen. Europe works on cycles, as my article here expressed nearly a year ago when England were riding high in Europe.
