World Cup 2010: Capello to Make England Players Sleep in Altitude Tents

Capello

England players will use the tents in their homes to become accustomed to the high altitude conditions of South Africa.

The team underwent certain tests to determine whether the tents were useful. Tests were carried out at sea level and at the altitude of Johannesburg on exercise bikes. Those that tested more vulnerable to altitude changes will have the tents sent to their individual houses.

Pressure Tents

Higher altitudes have thinner air. The tents help to stimulate the production of red blood cells that bring oxygen to the muscles. Without oxygen tiring is facilitated. I don’t think you can survive without it either.

It is expected that other high caliber teams will follow suit. Furthermore, it is becoming popular among individual players with the example of Manchester City’s bad boy, Craig Bellamy, who uses the tent to increase fitness and recovery from injury. Recovery from injury? Beckham also used the tent in a bid to become fit for the 2002 World Cup.

The tents however, do come at a price.
