The relentless spread of sports betting across the United States continues with the addition of Michigan, which officially launched legal online betting in January 2021. It comes not a moment too soon – Michigan has been accepting in-person bets since March 2020, but the extended Covid pandemic made online options all the more important.
This also means a healthy number of online betting sites and sportsbook apps have had time to get set up for Michigan residents, and each of them comes with some juicy bonuses for new members.

Sports betting bonuses are what online sportsbooks in Michigan (and every other state in the US) use to attract new players. They come in all shapes and sizes and basically represent the chance to save some extra money or play for free, on the sportsbook’s dime.
Sports betting is in an exciting place right now, and a big part of that is bonuses. From Illinois and Indiana to Tennessee and Colorado, it seems like every day a new state launches legal sports betting.
The more crowded the marketplace, the more important betting bonuses become, attracting more bettors and creating action.
This page is the perfect place to learn about bonuses and promotions in Michigan.
We’ve got info on how to claim a bonus, terms and conditions, and our handpicked list of the very best Michigan bonuses available right now. We’ve got an even more in-depth page dedicated to sportsbook bonuses in general, which you can check out, but for now, let’s dive right into the Great Lakes State.
There aren’t really any special qualifications required for claiming a betting bonus.
All you need is to be legally allowed to gamble at a sportsbook or online casino, which in Michigan means you must be at least 21 years old and physically located within Michigan state lines. You don’t even have to be a permanent Michigan resident. Hell, you can even use them to bet against the Red Wings or the Detroit Pistons!
That’s one of the great things about online sports betting bonuses: they’re available to just about everyone. Mobile sports betting fans can even claim them with a few swipes on their phones, using an iOS or Android app.
No matter what bonus you choose, your first step will be to sign up with the sportsbook.
You may have to use a promo code during the registration process, which is a kind of password that unlocks your bonus. Once your sign-up is complete, your bonus will be ready and waiting in your account.
Depending on the type of bonus, you may also need to make a cash deposit to trigger it. Bank transfers, debit cards, and e-wallets like PayPal are all commonly accepted payment methods.
Sometimes sportsbooks don’t require any codes and instead, just automatically credit all new players with a welcome bonus.
The important thing is to read your bonus instructions carefully. Michigan online sportsbooks are happy to hand out bonuses since it means more bettors – but only if you follow the instructions.
Of course, you can always head over to our reviews to get all the details laid out for you, and a shortcut link straight to claiming your sign-up bonus.
There are loads of online sports betting bonuses out there, and in this section, we’ve listed some of the most common ones you’re likely to find in Michigan.
There are bonuses for all types of sports betting – money lines, point spreads, parlays, teasers, and more. The same goes for the different sports betting markets in Michigan, you can bet on the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, and just about every top sport in the US.
We’ve got more information about each one – how it works and how to use it – in our complete guide to sports betting bonus offers.

As in every state, Michigan sports betting bonuses are subject to certain terms and conditions, which have a huge impact on the overall value of the bonus. Understanding the different conditions is absolutely crucial before signing up for a bonus.
Sportsbooks never actually try to trick potential bettors, but there are plenty of important considerations in the small print that need to be taken into account. We recommend you read up on them more, but below are the main things to be aware of.
Rollover Requirements
Minimum Odds
Maximum Bet Size
Restricted Markets
Expiry Date
Perhaps somewhat counterintuitively, the concept of a “best” bonus doesn’t necessarily make total sense. Instead, it all depends on the player.
Since every sports bettor has a different online gambling style, you’ll find that different bonuses suit players in different ways. No deposit bonuses, where you get a small amount of bonus cash totally free, are perfect for those without much or a bankroll or who want to dip their toe into sports betting without risking real money.
On the other hand, if you’re someone who likes larger sports bets and who is fully prepared to bet with your own money upfront, a deposit match bonus will seem much more valuable.
This means that the first step to identifying the best bonus is figuring out how you intend to play and what you value most from your sportsbook.
Given that, we’ve collected some of our favorite welcome bonuses available in Michigan.
Often, there’s a bit of a trade-off between the upper value of a welcome bonus and how much you’ll have to contribute yourself to reach it. DraftKings’ welcome bonus in Michigan is a perfect example of this.
DraftKings offer is a Bet $5, Get $150 in Bonus Bets Instantly. You don't need a promo code to take advantage of this offer, but you will have to deposit at least $5, bet at least $5, and you'll get $150 in bonus bets no matter how your initial bet pans out. Your bonus bets will be divided into six $25 portions, and you'll have seven days to use them before they expire. Remember, your bets must settle within this timeframe to remain valid.
Take a look at the full details for claiming your DraftKings Michigan promo.
Caesars Sportsbook offers a $1,000 First Bet bonus, meaning the sportsbook will reimburse your initial stakes, up to $1,000, in case your first bet loses. While the best practice is to try and maximize the bonus by going big and betting $1,000 on your first bet, you don't have to. You'll get your initial stakes back as a bonus, even if you bet only $10.
To grab the Caesars promo offer, make sure to use our promo code WSN1000 when you sign up for a new account. This offer is exclusive to new customers, and your qualifying bet must be placed within the first 30 days. Only the first bet will be considered for this promotion.
FanDuel's promo offer is similar to that of DraftKings.
To qualify for the FanDuel welcome promo, you'll have to bet $5 on any market and you'll get $200 in bonus bets if your bet wins. While the bonus may not be life-changing, it's an excellent way to kickstart your betting journey. There are no restrictions on markets or odds, unlike other types of bonuses
This is a great offer for those who prefer to play it safe on their first bet.
BetMGM has also gone down the bonus bet route for their welcome bonus, offering a slightly higher amount than FanDuel. Apart from that difference, both promotions are essentially the same.
Simply sign up, enter promo code WSNMGM, deposit, place your first bet, and enjoy $150 in bonus bets – whether your initial bet wins or loses.
BetRivers comes fully loaded with a second chance bet, worth up to a total of $250. You’ll have to deposit at least $10 and use a bonus code to trigger the bonus, which you can access via our links.
This is a very solid welcome bonus. The $250 limit is good, but most importantly, the playthrough requirements are very achievable. You just need to gamble your bonus cash 1x at odds of at least -200 before you can withdraw the cash. You can easily win real money from your bonus, very quickly.
The Golden Nugget bonus stands out with its unique approach. Unlike industry trends with second chance bets or deposit bonuses, it provides a first-stake match of up to $250 in Bonus Bets. This promo offer is available to both new and existing players. Again, not industry standard for sure.
To be eligible for the Golden Nugget promo, after creating an account, you need to place a qualifying wager on a bet with odds of -200 or higher (-100, +100, etc.). After your bet settles, regardless of the outcome of your bet, Golden Nugget will match your initial stakes, up to a maximum of $250, in the form of bonus bets. It's as simple as that.
On top of this special promo, Golden Nugget also offers daily sportsbook and casino promotions. You can learn more about them in our detailed review.

A third daily fantasy sports option in Michigan is Monkey Knife Fight. Not nearly as big as DraftKings or FanDuel but MKF has some good offers in-store.

In March 2020, legal sports betting officially launched under the supervision of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, having been signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer the previous year.
Initially, only brick-and-mortar retail sportsbooks were allowed, with the prospect of online betting down the line. Michigan had plenty of infrastructure for physical books good to go to, including the mighty MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown Casino, and Motorcity Casino.
Now, if that March 2020 date is setting alarm bells ringing in your head, you would be totally correct to be concerned.
Michigan’s shiny new sports betting industry launched practically the very week that the gravity of the covid pandemic became apparent. Soon all the major sports leagues were put on hold, along with all of Michigan’s commercial casinos and their new sportsbooks.
The restrictions continued throughout 2020, which saw Michigan lawmakers try to fast-track the legislation required for online betting. The first handful of legal online sportsbooks finally launched in Michigan in January 2021, making sports betting significantly more accessible in the Wolverine State.
It’s been a rocky start for Michigan. However, with online betting in place and the prospect of more sportsbooks launching soon, the state finally looks set to follow the lead of the likes of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and see the industry flourish.
