The first of our MLB best bets for Monday night comes from New York, where the Milwaukee Brewers will visit the New York Mets. The Mets are coming off of a disastrous loss on Sunday to the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Brewers won their last series over the weekend against the Cleveland Guardians. Here, we like both teams to continue moving in opposite directions, which will work in Milwaukee’s favor.
One of the major reasons that the Mets are favored in this game is that Justin Verlander is on the mound for them. But Verlander and Brewers starter Colin Rea have not been all that different statistically so far this season. Both come in with losing records and ERAs between 4.50 and 5.00. We should see both of these pitchers perform similarly enough to keep the Brewers competitive throughout this contest.
There is also the question of how the Mets will respond to Sunday’s collapse against the Phillies in this game. While it is possible that they raise their level of play in response to such a disastrous result, it is also possible that they sink even further after losing such a winnable game. For that reason, the Brewers are worth a play at such a generous plus price.

The Atlanta Braves have proven this season that they may be the class of the National League in 2023. They should continue to prove just that on Monday night when they host the Minnesota Twins at Truist Park. In this matchup, a couple of Cy Young contenders in their respective leagues are on the mound, and bettors can expect Atlanta’s Cy Young contender to get himself back on the right track.
Spencer Strider was the NL Cy Young favorite for much of the first half of this season. But a couple of poor starts against struggling teams like the Mets and Tigers have moved him down the list of favorites a bit. In this game, though, Strider should be able to shine again as he faces a Twins team that ranks in the bottom half of the league in runs scored for the season.
Additionally, we should see Twins pitcher Sonny Gray struggle more than usual, as he faces a Braves team that is among the most dangerous in all of baseball at the plate. Only the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays have scored more runs than the Braves so far this season. This could be Gray’s toughest road test of the season so far, even though he has pitched in Houston and Los Angeles already this year.

The final play in our list of MLB best bets for Monday comes from Baltimore, where the Orioles will host the red-hot Cincinnati Reds. Cincinnati has lost two games in a row but had won 12 consecutive contests before that. Expect the Reds to get back into the win column on Monday night against an Orioles team that has been playing well themselves of late.
Cincinnati should be able to get to Orioles starter Cole Irvin in this matchup. Irvin is 1-3 this season and has posted a troublesome 7.71 ERA for the year. With several red-hot hitters in the Cincinnati lineup right now, including the young phenom Elly De La Cruz, the Reds will likely score in bunches on Monday night in Maryland.
It is also important to remember that while the Reds have lost two games in a row, those losses came against the best team in the National League in the Atlanta Braves. There is certainly no shame in losing to the Braves, and the Reds should be able to pick up a win to get back on track against the Orioles.
