On Monday, the Orioles will battle the Blue Jays from the Rogers Centre in Toronto. This will be the first of a four-game series between the two clubs. Baltimore has been the aggressor throughout the season in this series, winning five of the first six games. Seven games are left between the two squads, so time is running out for the Blue Jays to make a statement.
Toronto will look to even the gap between the divisional foes, and they have the roster to make it happen. The game can be seen nationally on ESPN+ as Kyle Gibson and Chris Bassitt will take the ball for their respective clubs.

Baltimore comes into this matchup off a three-game series against the Yankees. Prior to this series, they played in Philadelphia where they lost two of three contests. The Orioles are easily a top-three team in the American League this season and have shown no signs of slowing down heading into the late summer months.
Right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson gets the start on the mound for Baltimore. Gibson is coming off a loss to Philadelphia, where he pitched six innings, gave up two earned runs, and recorded five strikeouts. Regardless of who has been on the mound for Baltimore, they've still managed to edge out wins because of their success hitting the ball. However, lately, Gibson has proven to be unreliable, giving up 16 runs in his last 30 innings.
Toronto is giving right-hander Chris Bassitt the start. Just six days after pitching five innings, giving up two runs, and striking out five batters, Bassitt will look to deliver once again for his team.
Unlike Kyle Gibson, Bassitt has shown countless signs of life in close games and has been a clutch pitcher throughout the year. Bassitt has recorded a 3.33 ERA in July and should build on this success against Baltimore.
With games against Los Angeles, Arizona, and San Diego, competition has never been an issue for this right-handed stud. We believe Bassitt’s arm will too be too much for Baltimore to handle, and it will lead to a narrow win for Toronto.

The Baltimore Orioles have struggled to find consistency with their pitchers this season. Gibson has a 9-6 record with a 4.68 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 127 innings this season. In his last five starts for the Orioles, Gibson has managed a 4.75 ERA, which isn’t good enough to win.
If there is one pitcher in Baltimore’s rotation that needs to be more consistent, it’s Gibson. If he can get back to the quality of pitching he was producing at the beginning of the season, he could really spring this team to a new level.
The 2023 Chris Bassitt campaign has been up and down, but he has seemed to develop a bit of a rhythm in his past few starts. The 34-year-old right-hander has only given up four total runs in his last three starts against the Dodgers, Padres, and Diamondbacks.
In these starts, Bassitt has thrown 90 or more pitches but has only struck out 16 batters. Bassitt's ability to put his team on his back in big games could take the Blue Jays from being pretenders to contenders.
Baltimore currently sits at the top of the AL East, just 1.5 games up on the Tampa Bay Rays. The AL East division has been the most competitive in all of baseball in the regular season. As of right now, it's unclear who will take the division crown home, but both these teams have a quality chance in the division.
The Orioles have been incredible this season and lead the AL East. They’re top 10 in nearly every batting category ranking 10th in total runs with 502 and ninth in OPS with .734. However, the bullpen for Baltimore is where their record doesn't quite add up. The team ERA is at a surprisingly low 4.19, and this has been haunting the Orioles all season. Baltimore must add a piece at the deadline to support the bullpen. Baltimore's bullpen has also given up the eighth most home runs to opposing teams and the third most runs in the entire league this season.
The Blue Jays have faced little trouble finding success with their starting pitchers. They rank sixth in MLB in individual pitcher wins. They also gave up the eighth least amount of hits in baseball with only 854.
Toronto has the fourth most at-bats all season, which shows they continue to flip the lineup. The franchise is also second in the league in hits with 947. They only trail the Texas Rangers in this category, and they’ve also limited their strikeouts this season as well.
The Blue Jays are currently five games back in the AL East. If Toronto can be slightly more consistent in the batter's box, they have the team to make a late summer push. Their stud pitchers like Bassitt, Kevin Gausman, and Alek Manoah could be able to carry this team to a division victory,
