Regular Season Record: 8-1
With the Georgia Bulldogs currently sitting on top of the SEC East Division standings, three games separate them from their third straight trip to the conference title game. Standing in their way is arguably their toughest remaining opponent on the schedule, as games against Texas A&M and Georgia Tech follow a road test against Auburn. With a second ranked scoring defense that has allowed 10.1 points per contest, the Dawgs are in good shape against the Tigers.
Georgia is coming off a solid showing against a divisional opponent last weekend, shutting out Missouri 27-0 in Sanford Stadium. Although quarterback Jake Fromm had accuracy issues, completing just 13 of 29 pass attempts, he did manage to connect with freshman receiver George Pickens twice for touchdowns. Lead back D’Andre Swift added 83 yards on the ground, while senior receiver Lawrence Cager hauled in six catches for 93 yards.
The tough Bulldog defense capitalized on the absence of Mizzou’s starting quarterback Kelly Bryant, limiting quarterbacks Taylor Powell and Connor Bazelak to 84 and 64 passing yards, respectively. The Tigers’ top rusher, Larry Rountree III could only muster 24 yards on nine carries, as UGA’s defensive front combined for five tackles for losses. Junior safety Richard LeCounte accounted for Georgia’s lone forced turnover, picking off Powell in the first quarter and returning the interception 71 yards to set up a Rodrigo Blankenship field goal.

Regular Season Record: 7-2
With the SEC West crown out of reach, the Auburn Tigers are mostly playing for pride and the best possible bowl game. They could also have Florida fans chanting “War Eagle” if they can take down the Bulldogs at home, and potentially put the Gators back on top of the SEC East. Help could be on the way for the Tigers, as key defenders Jeremiah Dinson and Marlon Davidson have been back in practice after missing last week’s game against Ole Miss.
The Tigers are coming off a tough home win over the Rebels last week, coming out on top 20-14. Freshman quarterback Bo Nix helped his team move the chains by slinging the ball around for 340 yards in the air, while also helping the Tigers maintain possession for 36 minutes. Fellow freshman D.J. Williams ran for 93 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore receiver Anthony Schwartz caught nine passes for 89 yards.
Auburn’s defense did their part to avoid an Ole Miss upset bid, limiting the Rebels to 266 total yards and 3.7 yards per pass completion. Senior defenders Derrick Brown and Daniel Thomas tied for the team lead with 12 total tackles apiece, while sophomore defensive back Christian Tutt contributed the lone turnover by intercepting John Rhys Plumlee.
These longtime SEC rivals have met 115 times prior to Saturday, in a series that dates back to 1902. Georgia currently holds a narrow 57-52-6 lead over Auburn, and has won seven of the last ten meetings. The last Auburn victory happened to be the most recent meeting at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which was the first matchup between the two schools in 2017 before rematching in the SEC title game.
Last year’s game saw the Bulldogs win 27-10 at home, with running backs D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield combining for 279 rushing yards. Swift would ice that game in the fourth quarter with a 77 yard scamper.
Junior offensive guard Justin Shaffer is listed as questionable with a neck injury that has kept him out of action since the South Carolina game.
Sophomore cornerback Tyson Campbell is listed as questionable with a toe injury that he managed to play through against Missouri.
Graduate receiver Lawrence Cager is likely to play against Auburn despite dealing with a shoulder injury.
Sophomore running back JaTarvious Whitlow is listed as questionable with a left knee injury that has kept him out of action for more than a month.
Freshman receiver Ja’Varrius Johnson is listed as questionable with a personal issue.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Joey Gatewood is no longer with the team after entering the transfer portal.
The matchup to keep an eye out in this game will be between two of the best linemen the SEC has to offer. Auburn’s Marlon Davidson will be looking to make negative plays in Georgia’s backfield, whether it may be sacking Jake Fromm, or stuffing D’Andre Swift on running plays. Georgia’s blind side protector, Andrew Thomas, will be tasked with thwarting Davidson’s attempts to stall the Bulldogs’ offense.
Andrew Thomas
Offensive Tackle | 6-5, 320lb | Pace Academy | Lithonia, GA | Junior
Stats: 37 Career Starts
Affectionately known as the “Great Wall of Athens,” Andrew Thomas has been a mainstay on the offensive line since arriving on campus in 2017. The in-state product began his career as an everyday starter at right tackle his freshman year before being entrusted with the left tackle job ever since. Having blocked for a plethora of top running backs at Georgia, there is plenty of tape of him mauling defenders in the run game. Couple that with his solid pass protection skills as part of a line that has surrendered just five sacks this year, it’s no wonder why NFL scouts are salivating over him as a potential top-ten pick.
Marlon Davidson
Defensive End | 6-3, 278lb | Greenville HS | Greenville, AL | Senior
Like his opponent, Marlon Davidson was a day one starter as a freshman back in 2016, the first Auburn defensive lineman to do so in 30 years. Given his solid size at nearly 280 pounds, Davidson can hold is own as both an edge and interior rusher. He does not possess freakish athleticism that the likes of Chase Young and other stud pass rushers have, however, he makes up for it with his immense strength. Davidson often uses this strength to overpower opposing linemen and prevent them from making forward progress as blockers.
