Seahawks vs Dolphins Predictions and Picks

Doesn’t matter how banged up the rest of the Seahawks look, because if Russel Wilson is under center for them then they are a decent bet to win, and against this questionable Dolphins team, this spread should be easily covered.

Pick:

Seahawks -6.5 -110

Despite a multitude of injuries, the undefeated Seattle Seahawks go into this Week 4 matchup favored by about a touchdown and regardless of which targets surround QB Russell Wilson, he is bound to figure out how to get them into the end zone.

The Dolphins may be just 1-2 at this point in the season, but Miami is healthy and young and led by veteran journeyman QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and they can strike deadly at any point, especially against a wounded Seahawks defense.

These two cross-conference rivals have only met each other 15 other times (including 3 postseason games), with the Miami Dolphins winning 10 of those matchups and the Seattle Seahawks winning 5 of the games.

Can the Seahawks Win Sunday With So Many Questionable Injuries?

There are fourteen Seahawks players currently listed as questionable for this matchup with the Dolphins, seven of those on offense, and the remaining seven on defense, all of these, according to head coach Pete Carroll, game-time decisions.

Some key injuries are to the starters, like  Jamal Adams (groin), RB Chris Carson (knee), CB Quinton Dunbar among others, so it will be up to Carroll and his staff (OC Brian Schottenheimer and DC Ken Norton Jr) to game plan around the next man up.

In this unpredictable season, the best team may not win the most games, but rather that honor may go to the team that most effectively manages a banged-up roster, something the Seahawks will be able to test on Sunday.

Editor’s Picks

Can the Dolphins Win with Fitzmagic, or Will Tua Be Necessary?

Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is solid – he has proven himself to be an accurate passer who understands how to read defenses quickly and who is not afraid to throw from out of the pocket or boldly dive for the first down.

That said, with Fitzpatrick under center, the Dolphins are 1-2, though there is no way the blame for that losing record should fall solely on the wide shoulders of Fitzmagic since his skills seem to keep the team in games that they otherwise might have lost.

The plan that the Dolphins’ front office would prefer would be to allow backup rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa some sideline clipboard time before he has to learn the full ropes of QBing in the NFL, but it won’t take much more losing before we hear the cries for “Tua” from the stands in Miami.

Seahawks Key Player: (RB) Chris Carson

In terms of the Seattle Seahawks running back room, here’s how it stands so far in 2020 – Rashaad Penny (knee – ACL) is on PUP-R, and Chris Carson (knee) and Carlos Hyde (shoulder) are listed as questionable for Sunday, both game-time decisions.

As incredible a passing attack as Wilson and company present, without a strong showing by the running backs, especially Carson, who averages 4.5 yards per carry and who has 3 receiving touchdowns so far in 2020.

The Seahawks need a solid rushing attack if they expect any play-action to work, which gives deep threat WR D.K. Metcalf more time to run his routes, so having Carson able to suit up relatively healthy for this Week 4 game will be critical.

Dolphins Key Player: (TE) Mike Gesicki

Time for tight end Mike Gesicki to become the player he was meant to be, the 6’6” 250-pound former Penn State Nittany Lion in his third NFL season with expectations high after catching 51 balls last season for 570 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Gesecki already has 12 catches this season for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns, which works out to be 14.6 yards per catch.

Fitzpatrick will need Gesicki’s help when he is being hunted down by Seattle’s deadly pass rush, so watch for the up and coming tight end with the soft hands to shine midfield on Sunday.
