This is our favorite bet from the opening day slate of games. The matchup features an improved Cubs team taking on the reigning World Series Champions. While we believe the Cubs will win the NL Central, the stage is set for an ugly start to the season in Texas.
We are betting on the Rangers to win today for a couple of reasons. First, they will have the advantage of a rowdy opening day crowd at home. The Rangers posted the fourth-most home wins in the league last year, showing just how hard they are to beat inside Globe Life Field.
In addition to home-field advantage, the Rangers also have the better lineup. We know what Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Adolis Garcia can do, but Texas has a lot of young talent. Evan Carter and Josh Jung are two young players we see breaking out in 2024. The Cubs have a solid lineup, but the Rangers corps is a few years ahead of them.
Considering both teams will have their aces on the mound, we’re rolling with the better lineup to come out on top tonight.

It took Seattle a long time to figure things out last season, but they eventually looked like the team we thought they were. While a late push to win the AL West came up short, the team has improved in the offseason. While the loss of Teoscar Hernandez hurts, the team replaced him with fan-favorite Mitch Haniger and added Jorge Polanco at second base. Those are two good bats that will boost a lineup that disappointed in 2023.
Brayan Bello is a nice young pitcher for the Red Sox, but he was downright bad towards the end of last season. Those struggles included his lone start in Seattle, where he allowed four runs on eight hits across six innings. That was good enough to get the win then, but it won’t be with tonight.
On top of their dangerous lineup, the Mariners will have Luis Castillo starting on the bump tonight. The ace was fantastic at home last season, posting an 8-5 record with a 3.09 ERA. The Red Sox lineup isn’t great, which is a problem when they need to travel across the country to play a late-night game. Even if the Mariners pull Castillo early, their bullpen is good enough to clamp down on a weak Red Sox lineup.
Last but not least, we consider where and when the game will be played. We expect Mariners fans to be rowdy. Last year’s late-season push reinvigorated the fanbase, fueling their hopes of a World Series title. The game will also be played at 7:10 PM local time, which is 10:10 PM Boston time. That time change has a significant effect, especially for the offense.
Given all these factors, we are confident Seattle will cover the run line tonight.
