The opening day of the 2024 MLB season has finally arrived. That could make prop bets a little difficult since we don’t have much information other than last year’s numbers, but we’re going to try anyway. After all, fortune favors the bold, so we’re going to try our hand at some MLB prop bets for Thursday’s games. We’ll be using odds from DraftKings Sportsbook, where new users can sign up, place a $5 bet, and instantly receive $150 worth of bonus bets.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Cardinals vs. Dodgers (4:10 PM, EST)

Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 Total Bases (-105) at DraftKings

It’s always easy to back Freeman to collect multiple bases. The guy hit .331 with 90 extra-base hits last season, so he always has a chance to get an extra-base hit or collect multiple hits. Even if he only went 1 for 6 during his two games in South Korea, Freeman should be able to get going in the Dodgers home opener on Thursday. Most importantly, Freeman has a great track record against St. Louis starter Miles Mikolas. He’s 6 for 15 (.400) with three extra-base hits against Mikolas. That’s enough for us to take even odds on Freeman collecting multiple bases.

Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 Home Runs (+240) at DraftKings

With Freeman hitting behind Ohtani, he’s bound to get some good pitches to hit. Plus, it’s easy to get the feeling that Ohtani is going to do something special in his home opener with his new team. Why not take a chance on him hitting a home run? He has two hits in three career at-bats against Mikolas, which isn’t much of a sample size, but it’s enough to give Ohtani a chance.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Tigers vs. White Sox (4:10 PM, EST)

Tarik Skubal Under 1.5 ER (-145) at DraftKings

Among pitchers on opening day, Skubal is among the best candidates to target for positive prop bets. He’s coming off a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he posted a 2.80 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. Skubal has earned the right to be Detroit’s opening-day starter and is poised to hit the ground running after allowing one run or less in his final four starts last season. He also has the advantage of facing a Chicago lineup that has some holes in it. Skubal also has a good track record against most of the White Sox hitters. The entire Chicago roster is batting just .209 with a .528 OPS against Skubal, which is a good reason to bank on him conceding one run or less on Thursday.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Rockies vs. Diamondbacks (10:10 PM, EST)

Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (-145) at DraftKings

The reigning National League champs must be loving the chance to open the new season at home against the Rockies. We’re expecting a big day from the Arizona lineup, as the D’Backs are one of the best bets to win on Thursday. Look for Marte to be the catalyst after batting .370 with a .998 OPS during spring training. He’s always capable of multiple hits or an extra-base hit. Equally important, he crushes Colorado starter Kyle Freeland. In 43 at-bats against Freeland, Marte is batting .349 with nine extra-base hits, making this a surprisingly safe prop bet.

Kyle Freeland Over 2.5 ER (-165) at DraftKings

Speaking of Freeland, he’s a great pitcher to fade on opening day. It’s been years since he performed like a frontline starter, yet he’s the best the Rockies have this year. Also, Marte isn’t the only member of Arizona’s lineup who hits him hard. As a team, the D’Backs have a .314 average and .934 OPS against Freeland, which means he’s likely to give up some runs in this game.
