2024 NBA Finals MVP - My Pick

Jaylen Brown has been a rising star through the 2024 NBA Playoffs. With his running mate Jayson Tatum struggling, Brown has stepped up to lead Boston on both court ends. His scoring and efficiency have been trademarks of his performance, and his West Finals MVP award may have been a precursor to the top individual prize of the NBA Playoffs.

Who Is the Favorite to Win the 2024 NBA Finals MVP?

Jaylen Brown (-230) at FanDuel

Jaylen Brown has been the standout performer for the Boston Celtics this postseason. Having already claimed the Western Conference Finals MVP Award, Brown has maintained chiefly his form while leading the Celtics through the first four games of the NBA Finals. In terms of production, he’s the frontrunner for Finals MVP.

Through the NBA Finals, Brown has averaged 20.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 49.2% from the field and 24.0% from three-point range. In Boston’s Game 4 loss, Brown posted ten points, two assists, and one rebound on 25.0% shooting.

Game 4 may not have dampened expectations of Boston winning the NBA Finals, but it created more questions about the NBA Finals MVP. Jaylen Brown had his worst postseason game in Game 4, but a bounce-back performance to win the title is likely all it’d take for him to claim the NBA Finals MVP.

Who Are the Contenders to Win the 2024 NBA Finals MVP?

Jayson Tatum (+220) at FanDuel

Jayson Tatum has gotten off to a slow start in the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. Despite his struggles on the field, the Boston Celtics have found a way to find victory. He must make significant strides in his production en route to the NBA Championship if he hopes to claim the NBA Finals MVP award.

In four games against the Dallas Mavericks, Tatum has averaged 20.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.3 assists on 36.5% shooting and 29.0% from three-point range. In Game 4, Tatum posted 15 points, three assists, and five rebounds in 27 minutes of play.

Many thought Jayson Tatum turned the corner with his performance against the Mavericks in Game 3. Instead, he and the rest of the Celtics struggled throughout Game 4 and suffered a 38-point loss. Tatum seems unpredictable at this point, which is why the sheer potential of his output keeps him the top contender for NBA Finals MVP.

Luka Doncic (+1400) at FanDuel

  • 2024 NBA Playoff Stats: 28.9 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 8.2 APG, 3.1 3PM, 44.5% FG%, 32.7% 3P%

Luka Doncic has been stellar through the first phase of the NBA Finals, carrying his Dallas Mavericks through their struggles. Unfortunately for Doncic, the Mavericks are down 1-3 in the series as it shifts back to Boston after pushing the series to a fifth game.

In four games of the NBA Finals, Doncic has averaged 29.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists on 47.0% shooting and 25.0% from three-point range. In Dallas’ Game 4 victory, Doncic put up 29 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 46.2% shooting.

Luka Doncic has been a shining light for the Mavericks through their challenging NBA Finals run. While he’s produced at a high level, his teammates haven’t consistently supported his efforts. After a Game 4 where the Mavericks role players finally showed up, Doncic may finally have the support needed to establish his team in this series.

Jrue Holiday (+3800) at FanDuel

Jrue Holiday has always been a steadying presence for the Boston Celtics and his previous clubs. The veteran point guard is fantastic on the defensive side of the ball, but his newfound offensive production has seen him soar up the Finals MVP odds table.

In four games against the Mavericks, Holiday has averaged 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 54.8% from the field, and 43.8% from the three-point range. In Game 4, Holiday put up a modest ten points, two assists, and three rebounds in 28 minutes of play.

Holiday’s Game 2 outburst put him in the running for Finals MVP. However, he hasn’t matched those heights since, and he’s become a distant fourth in the Finals MVP odds table. Holiday’s contributions are valuable to the Celtics but likely short of making him worthy of winning NBA Finals MVP.
