There’s been some movement in the race to win NBA Finals MVP, but the favorite remains Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum. Likewise, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets is still the top contender. Jayson Tatum has maintained his stellar play through the First Round of the NBA Playoffs. While he, and the Celtics as a whole, haven’t had the same freedom in the playoffs due to Miami’s defense, he’s more than shown he can adjust to find success. He’s averaged 24.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists through three games. While not among the best performers through the First Round, there are clear expectations that he’ll reach the Final and have improved production against less vaunted defenses.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP-worthy production and team success rightly put him in the running for Most Valuable Player through the 2023-24 NBA season. Through three games of his third-ever playoff series, Gilgeous-Alexander has looked like a true superstar. Averaging 28.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds on 50.8% shooting, Gilgeous-Alexander has maintained his production against a veteran Pelicans team. Making the NBA Finals will be difficult for the Oklahoma City Thunder, but they certainly have a great chance with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the lead.

By the nature of Jaylen Brown’s role with the Boston Celtics, he rarely receives plaudits at the level of his running mate, Jayson Tatum.
