As expected, Houston rolled in the Round of 64, beating Longwood 86-46. Four players, LJ Cryer, J’Wan Roberts, Emanuel Sharp, and Jamal Shead, had double-digit points, while Cryer and Roberts led the team with 17.
Against Longwood, Houston shot 58.5% from the field and nearly 48% from beyond the arc. They also recorded 38 rebounds in their win while holding the No. 16 seed to just 34.1% shooting from the floor and 23.1% from three-point range.
Houston is the best defensive squad in the country, holding teams to 57 points per game and 87.3 points per 100 possessions.
Texas A&M outlasted Nebrskka, winning 98-83. Wade Taylor IV led the way with 25 points, Manny Obaseki had 22, Tyrece Radford had 20, Jace Carter had 13, and Henry Coleman III had ten. Radford also had ten rebounds.
The Aggies shot 49.3% from the field and 56.5% from beyond the arch on 23 attempts. The Aggies lead the nation in rebounds per game and demonstrated that once again here, accumulating 40 compared to just 28 for Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers shot 45.8% from the field and nearly 32% from three-point range.
In addition to allowing 83 to Nebraska, they allowed 95 to Florida and 87 to Kentucky in the two games prior. The Aggies allow, on average, around 71 points per game. Texas A&M opponents shoot 42.5% from the field and nearly 34% from three-point range.
The Cougars are equipped with the best defense in the league and are going up against a team far from the worst defense but a fairly middle-of-the-road one. The Cougars rely on a few players to carry the offensive load, so there’s a chance we could see a poor shooting night from any combination of them, and Texas A&M catches them, but this offense still averages 75.5 points per game.
The Aggies have some threat like Taylor IV, but Houston’s defense holds teams to just 37.8% shooting from the field (best in the country) and less than 30% from three-point range.
