  • UConn is the #1 overall seed in the tournament with a 31-3 record

  • Stetson earned a 16-seed in the tournament by winning the ASUN

  • UConn is looking to win the first back-to-back title since the 2006-07 Florida Gators

The Stetson Hatters will look to shock the world on Friday and take down the tournament’s top seed, the UConn Huskies. While it may seem like an unwinnable game for the Hatters, we saw a 16-1 upset just last year.

Fairleigh Dickinson beat Purdue in the first round, the second time a #16 seed had dethroned a top program. While possible, it’s not probable because most of the country has already labeled the 2024 Huskies as the champions.

UConn will have a battle in the East Region once they get through Stetson. Here, we will break down the game, our best bet, and Connecticut’s outlook to win their second straight National Championship.

UConn vs. Stetson Prediction and Odds

UConn Huskies

The Connecticut Huskies are on the verge of history. They’re six wins away from hoisting the National Championship trophy for the second consecutive season.

UConn posted a 31-3 record and lost just two games in the Big East. Their lone out-of-conference loss was on the road against Kansas, when the Jayhawks were viewed as a legitimate championship threat.

The Huskies cruised through the Big East Tournament and ended it with a statement victory over Marquette. The Huskies won 73-57 and exploited Marquette in the second half.

First-Team All-American Tristen Newton is the player to watch for the Huskies. Newton led the nation in triple-doubles this season, averaging 15.2 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Newton could win the tournament’s most valuable player if UConn dances back to the title game.

Stetson Hatters

Stetson had a fantastic season and was consistently one of the best teams in the ASUN all season. The Hatters finished 22-12 on the year and prevailed in the ASUN Championship to receive the automatic bid.

Stetson won an instant classic against the Austin Peay Governors. They trailed by three points at halftime but outscored the Governors by six in the final 20 minutes to win 94-91.

While they can afford to give up 91 to Austin Peay and still win, this won’t be the case against UConn. The Huskies should be able to score at will against Stetson, who ranked 342nd in adjusted defensive efficiency.

The Hatters are 220th overall in the KenPom Ratings and are led by Jalen Blackmon. Blackmon averages 21.5 points per game, which is 10th in the country. He also shoots 43.4% from the field and is coming off a 43-point game in the ASUN Championship.

Blackmon must have the game of his life to have a chance at knocking off the Huskies.

UConn vs. Stetson Pick

UConn is the best team in the NCAA Tournament. They have a challenging road to the title game, but the challenges shouldn’t mount until the Sweet 16.

Connecticut is a better team than Stetson in every facet of the game. They should be able to score at will while playing lockdown defense. Take the Huskies to cover the massive spread.
