The biggest game of the night in the NHL is set for an Eastern Conference battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins (23-19-7) hosting the Florida Panthers (33-15-4). This is a game that will have serious playoff implications this early into the second half of the season. The Panthers will be vindicated by an elite Eastern Conference team being able to win on the road. For the Penguins, they are attempting to show they are deserving of a playoff position.
The Panthers have won both matchups this season with the first being a 3-1 home victory on December 8. Their second victory came on the road a few weeks ago with a 3-2 win in a shootout on January 26.
The Panthers have the capability of taking another victory on the road as they are the more efficient team on both sides of the ice. Florida is ranked second in the league in goals allowed per game (2.5) while their offense is averaging 3.19 goals (13th in the league).
The Penguins have the talent and the front office to make a serious run for a Stanley Cup Finals appearance. Their biggest problem is their overall coaching staff and their need for more consistency. The Penguins have only won five of the last 14 games.
While they are ranked sixth in the league in goals allowed (2.63), it is the offense that is the main concern. Pittsburgh only averages 2.9 goals per game (24th in the league).
The Panthers are the superior team and have the momentum by winning six of their seven games.

The latest game of the night will be a battle between divisional rivals to see which team has the potential to climb higher in the standings. The Minnesota Wild (24-23-5) go on the road to take on the Arizona Coyotes (23-24-4) in a matchup for relevance in a competitive Central Division.
These two teams have only met once this season and it was a complete blowout in favor of the Coyotes. Arizona went on the road to defeat Minnesota 6-0 on January 13. Coyotes center Nick Bjugstad accounted for three goals while forward Clayton Keller accounted for two goals and an assist. Goalie Connor Ingram had an outstanding game with 38 saves and no goals allowed.
Since then, the Coyotes and the Wild have been heading in complete opposition directions. Minnesota has gone on to win seven of their last ten games to get over .500%, while the Coyotes have only won two of the last eight games and gone under .500%. The new year hasn’t been easy for Arizona as they’ve gone 4-12 during the span.
There isn’t much of a difference between the two teams offensively and defensively. The Wild are ranked 19th in the league in goals per game (3) while the Coyotes are ranked 21st in goals per game (2.94). The Coyotes are just better than the Wild in goals allowed per game (3.14 goals allowed per game to 3.23 goals allowed per game).
The biggest difference in this game is the huge difference in momentum that the Wild possess compared to the Coyotes.
