The fifth season of LIV Golf has started with yet more off-the-course headlines.
This time, it is not about who had signed up to play on LIV. Instead, it is about who has left.
So, while Brooks Koepka has returned to the PGA Tour, Patrick Reed decided to play on the DP World Tour.
The two decisions are a blow to the rebels, but they also remain bullish about the future.
That said, there is now a sense that LIV is looking towards youngsters rather than big-name signings.
There is also a new dynamic this year: four rounds instead of three, 72 holes instead of 54.
Will it change who wins? Will the youngsters thrive?
There are many questions and it all makes for an intriguing year, one that starts in Saudi Arabia this week.
Poland’s Adrian Meronk won the title last year, holding off Sebastian Munoz and Jon Rahm.
Who will get off to a flier in 2026?
Let’s take a closer look at the task ahead.

| 2025 | Saudi International | 1st | Jose Luis Ballester (Spain) | -22 |
| 2nd | Caleb Surratt (USA) | -19 | ||

It was designed by Duncan Thomson and is known as ‘The Pearl of the Desert’
In addition to manmade lakes, there are many wadis (Arabic for dry ravines)
There is Paspalum grass on the putting surfaces

It remains bewildering that the Spaniard has not won more often on LIV. Because while he has been the Individual Champion in both 2024 and 2025, he has only two tournament victories in his 26 starts. And, even odder, he did not claim even one victory in 2025 (although he was second in three of his last four starts).

The two-time US Open champion is another LIV performer who doesn’t win as often as he should. In his case, he has just three wins in 45 starts - and only one win since September 2023. He’s a better player than that. Much better, in fact. He finished sixth at LIV Riyadh last year and was a winner in the Middle East at the 2019 Dubai Desert Classic.

The Spaniard vaults into the top three of the betting off sparkling form on the DP World Tour. He won November’s Australian PGA Championship and was then third and seventh in Dubai last month. The next step is to transfer that form to LIV where he has six top five finishes in 41 starts with a best of third back in 2024. He was sixth in LIV Riyadh last year.

Jon Rahm has not played anywhere since the second week of October which, for most golfers, would be a clear red flag.
But Jon Rahm is not every golfer, and a long break might be just what he needed after a year of frustration. Moreover, he did win first time out in the 2023 Tournament of Champions.
He’s also a three-time winner in the Middle East on the Earth Course in Dubai, and his debut at Riyadh was impressive too: three rounds of 67 for second place.
He can improve on that this week.
Finally, it’s important to factor in the extension of events to 72 holes because it should play right into the big man’s hands.
He will love the opportunity to grind the opposition down over four rounds, and he’s likely to be a winner again sooner rather than later.

Joaquin Niemann won the Saudi International at Riyadh in 2024 before finishing just 33rd at LIV Riyadh last year (and missing the cut in last year’s Saudi International).
If that’s one boom or bust record, his 2025 season was another.
The boom came in the form of five wins from 13 LIV starts.
The bust was four finishes outside the top 20 and four missed cuts to close the year (away from LIV).
Those bad results have seen his price rise, but if he finds his A (or even B) game it will offer great value. Niemann is still a quality operator.
Back him each way at +1600 with bet365.

The Aussie Lucas Herbert likes playing golf in the Middle Eastern desert.
He was the halfway leader when seventh on debut at the Emirates GC in Dubai in 2019, won there in 2020, and was third in 2023.
He was also third at Royal Greens in the 2023 Saudi International.
He has also taken a shine to Riyadh GC.
He was fourth in his event last year and fifth (with a final round 64) in last November’s Saudi International.
Keep it simple and take the +250 for another top 10 with bet365.
