Best MLB Bets Today 2024 05 10

We have two fantastic bets for you today, both covering division battles. The first comes from an NL Central showdown between the Cubs and Pirates. The second features a great Phillies team taking on a division rival in the Marlins.

Below, we will share our favorite bet for each game. We’ll be using odds from FanDuel Sportsbook, which is currently offering a welcome bonus of $150 in Bonus Bets to new customers when they sign up and make an initial winning wager of $5+.

Best MLB Bets Today: Cubs vs. Pirates (6:40 PM EST)

Under 7.5 (-120 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

This matchup features two solid offenses and the best pitching matchup of the day. On one side is veteran Jameson Taillon (3-0, 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP). The Cubs starter is in the midst of the best season of his career. His last three starts have been incredibly impressive. He has allowed a combined two runs over 19 innings against the Brewers, Mets, and Astros. That is a ton of firepower, giving us reason to believe his hot streak is far from over.

Taillon is set up for a far easier challenge today against the Pirates. Pittsburgh’s current lineup has faced Taillon in 60 at-bats, posting a very weak .167 batting average. The one danger will be Jack Suwinski, who has four hits and three home runs against the righty. However, Suwinski is stumbling badly, with a .178 batting average and two home runs across 107 at-bats this season. Considering that Taillon is red hot, we see a very quiet night for Suwinksi and the Buccos.

The Pirates will have one of their top pitching prospects on the mound tonight in Jared Jones (2-3, 2.63 ERA, 0.78 WHIP). The 22-year-old has been incredible across seven starts in his rookie campaign, posting quality starts against good offenses in the Phillies, Mets, Orioles, and Brewers. Teams will figure out Jones at some point, but that has yet to happen.

As good as Chicago’s offense is, they have been hit hard by injuries. While Cody Bellinger is back, and Seiya Suzuki may be back today, the team has not been swinging the bat well, scoring just six runs in three games against the Padres this week. The lineup will eventually click with Bellinger and Suzuki back, but that won’t happen with Jones on the mound tonight.

Best MLB Bets Today: Phillies vs. Marlins (7:10 PM EST)

Phillies -1.5 (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

The price isn’t great on this one, but it is one of the safest bets on the board today. That's partly due to the large gap in talent, with the Phillies leading the NL East while the Marlins sit in the basement. Considering the depth of the Phillies and the Marlins are already looking to rebuild, that gap won’t be closing anytime soon. Nothing is ever a guarantee, but this bet is too good to pass up.

Another reason we love this bet is Phillies starter Ranger Suarez (6-0, 1.72 ERA, 0.72 WHIP). The 28-year-old has been the best pitching at a Cy Young level this season. He has posted six consecutive quality starts as his confidence continues to build. Suarez didn’t have his best stuff in his last start, but he still gave up only three runs across six innings. Given the lowly state of the Marlins lineup, we expect him to bounce back and post another excellent stat line.

Speaking of the Marlins lineup, they took a significant hit when the team traded away their top hitter, Luis Arraez. This was one of the worst offensive teams in the league when they still had Arraez, and they may now be the worst with him gone. Even if Suarez doesn’t have his best stuff, the amount of damage this Marlins team can do is limited.
