Throw out the record books when these two powerhouses meet, it almost always ends up being a blood bath. The Red Sox are slumping a bit, having lost six of nine and welcome baseball’s best team to town, but still Fenway will be rocking.

Garcia’s 2022 record: (24-17)
The Yankees and Red Sox begin a four-game series on Thursday after going more than two months without seeing one another.
Over the past two months, the only team that’s been hotter than Boston, is New York.
The Yankees have the best record in baseball by a wide margin, which is why even though the Red Sox are in the Wild Card position right now, they’re a full 13.5 games back in the division – even though they’ve gone a red hot 35-17 in their past 52 games.
Boston has surged back into the playoff picture behind its lethal offense which ranks first in baseball in average (.262), fourth in on-base percentage (.326), eighth in slugging percentage (.415) and runs (382). The pitching staff is also much improved form early in the season and ranks seventh in ERA (3.63), WHIP (1.21) and batting average against (.232).
New York, which comes into play after a 16-0 blowout over Pittsburgh, has the most lethal offense in baseball. The Yankees belted five home runs on Wednesday and have scored the most runs (405) in all of baseball and scored each run in the fifth or later.
Matt Carpenter has been particularly hot the past week, batting .455 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Gerrit Cole takes the mound for New York, looking to continue to build on a solid season of work. The power righty is 7-2 with a 2.99 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and is fourth in baseball with 117 strikeouts in 93.1 innings of work.
His advanced metrics are impressive as well, with an expected ERA (82nd percentile), expected batting average (84th percentile), chase rate (87th percentile) and whiff rate (91st percentile) all rank among the tops in sthe big leagues.
It’s why he’s thrown quality starts in 11 of his last 13 outings.
He’s countered by rookie Josh Winckowski who has been very good over his past four starts,, but has yet to face anything like New York. In his five games, Winckowski is 3-2 overall with a 3.12 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
THe 24-year-old has given up just five runs the past 23 innings and comes off a game against the Cubs when he allowed just one run on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
For Boston, we’re looking at Christian Vazquez – a sneaky good hitter from the catchers spot who has enough pop to change the game around in the blink of an eye. He’s batting .286 with three home runs, 25 RBIs and a .731 OPS against right-handed pitching.
For New York, everybody is such a contributor it almost feels like cheating, but we have to select Anthony Rizzo, the power lefty who can wrap it around Pesky’s pole or send a blast deep to right or center.
He hasn’t been great away from New York – batting .213 with nine home runs and 21 RBIs.
