The Tennessee Volunteers can clinch some hardware on Wednesday evening when they face South Carolina. They will earn a share of the SEC regular-season championship if Tennessee prevails.
However, the Gamecocks and Alabama Crimson Tide are right behind the Volunteers, and we could see a three-way tie depending on the results this week. While Tennessee controls its destiny, the Volunteers must win in a hostile road environment.
Tennessee enters Wednesday’s game as the fourth-ranked team in the nation. South Carolina, which will look to pull off the upset, is also in the AP Top 25 at 17th. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET.
Here, we will break down the matchup and our best bets for Tennessee vs. South Carolina.
The Volunteers enter Wednesday’s game favored by 5.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook. Their moneyline price is -225 compared to South Carolina's +184.
The Gamecocks are the best team in the SEC against the spread at 21-8. Tennessee has also been profitable against the spread but less dominant than the Volunteers at 15-13-1.
The total is 139.5, and both teams have trended in different directions for this market. The Volunteers are 16-13 to the over, while South Carolina is 15-13-1 to the under.
Teams | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tennessee Volunteers | -5.5 (-106) | -225 | Over 139.5 (-110) |
South Carolina Gamecocks | -5.5 (-114) | +184 | Under 139.5 (-110) |

Tennessee will be in a difficult spot in Columbia on Wednesday night, but it’s nothing they’re not used to in the SEC. The Volunteers have owned the Gamecocks, winning eight of their past ten meetings.
However, Tennessee lost at home to South Carolina earlier in the year. This was a horrendous loss as the Volunteers were a 14-point favorite on Fanduel Sportsbook.
The Volunteers have responded positively, winning eight of their next nine games while climbing toward the top of the AP poll. Tennessee has a chance to right all their wrongs with a win on Wednesday night, and this focus should be visible in their play.
South Carolina will also enter this SEC contest with a lot of momentum. They have won three straight games, including a victory over #24 Florida. The Gamecocks knocked the Gators out of the top 25 and controlled every minute of their matchup with an excellent program.
South Carolina has won big games because of their defense, which was why they were victorious against Tennessee earlier this year. However, the Volunteers have one of the most potent offenses in the nation, and they usually don’t have bad nights.
It will be a long night for the Gamecocks if Tennessee is knocking down shots. Dalton Knecht is the Volunteers leading scorer, averaging 20.6 points per game while shooting 47.8% from the field.
He was among the only players who delivered against the Gamecocks in their first meeting. He dropped 31 points and had seven rebounds. The 6’6” guard is highly physical and should have another big night because of his ability to make many shots.
Tennessee has the 18th-ranked offense, according to KenPom. They’re also third in adjusted defensive efficiency, so they have the complete package. They just need to bring their best effort to Columbia on Wednesday.
If the Volunteers show up, South Carolina won’t be able to compete. Their offense hasn’t been good this season, scoring 72 points per game. They rank 236th in America in points per game and score under 70 points per game against SEC opponents.
Meechie Johnson is the player to watch for the Gamecocks. The junior guard scores 14.2 points per game, but he only shoots 40.9% from the field. He must be more efficient than usual to have a chance against one of the nation’s best offenses.

This game will be tight, and South Carolina must be taken seriously at home. However, in their last game, Tennessee had one of their worst offensive showings against the Gamecocks.
We expect Tennessee to respond with a vengeance, win outright, and cover the spread. It will take a total team effort, but the Volunteers have proven they can win on the road.
