Longtime New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is on the open market after he was released on Thursday, and the Atlanta Falcons are one of several teams interested in acquiring his services.

Belichick famously helped lead a 28-3 comeback against the Falcons in the Super Bowl LI. At 71 years old, he’s 16 wins behind George Halas and 26 behind Don Shula on the all-time regular-season wins leaderboard for head coaches.

Where will Belichick, who is widely regarded as the greatest coach ever, end up in 2024? The oddsmakers are already weighing in.

Top Favorites for Bill Belichick’s Next Team

Atlanta Falcons (+150)

The Falcons finished 2023 at 7-10 and third in the NFC South. It was their third straight year finishing 7-10 and did not come without aggravation and frustration, as many believed former coach Arthur Smith misused his talented offensive pieces. Atlanta needs to find its quarterback of the future but it is strong in most spots on the roster.

No NFL team (+175)

Belichick comes with a stigma of being short, difficult to work with, and displaying unimpressive roster management skills. Although he still did a great job with the New England defense, many believe that he has lost his fastball. He’s also only 83-104 all-time without Tom Brady.

Los Angeles Chargers (+400)

The Chargers have a ready-made championship roster. Justin Herbert is one of the seven best quarterbacks in the league, Keenan Allen is a top-flight wideout, the offensive line is solid, and the defense is full of studs such as Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Derwin James, and others. Belichick would just need to install a sense of order and go about his usual business on defense to transform the team into a perennial playoff contender.

What Happened to Bill Belichick?

Bill Belichick was relieved of duty by the Patriots on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024. He won six Super Bowls and three AP Coach of the Year awards while going 266-121 in the regular season and 30-12 in the playoffs in New England.

Belichick is best known for his ability to consistently roll out some of the best defenses in the NFL, seemingly regardless of who is at his disposal. Even though he’s older, he hasn’t seemed to have lost his passion for coaching and is still one of the best assets to have on Sundays.

Tom Brady won a Super Bowl his first year after leaving New England in 2020. There isn’t much that Belichick hasn’t done in his illustrious career, so the opportunity to match his ex-QB and add a ninth Super Bowl ring to his collection could be quite motivational for him in 2024.
