Tipico Sportsbook Review

The arrival of legal sports betting to the United States has seen a flurry of activity, as many of the top sportsbooks from Europe and around the world are eager to launch in the new market. The latest big name, Tipico, is the leading sportsbook and betting site in Germany and is now available to bet with in New Jersey and Colorado.

Ohio is expected to be added soon, with the prospect of more states around the corner.

Any time a new big-name sportsbook arrives on US shores, we send our expert team to carry out a comprehensive review, which covers everything you need to know before deciding to sign up.

Tipico is a big deal in Germany, so we had high hopes to see what they were bringing to the table in the US market.

We’ve got it all right here, including essential details on how to use the app, welcome bonuses, the range of bets and sports available, banking options, customer support, and much much more.

Let’s see what all that fuss in Germany is about.

Tipico sports betting app Tipico for Android; Tipico for iOS

Right off the bat, we should say that Tipico has gone down the same route as more and more sportsbooks these days – by hosting their sportsbook almost exclusively on an app. To place a bet, you’ll need to download the app, which is available for both iOS, Apple, and Android devices. Have a look at the best sports betting apps out there.

Tipico does have a US website, which allows you to do lots of things including sign up, make deposits and withdrawals, claim bonuses, and more. But to see the actual lines and bet, you need the Tipico app.

On the whole, we’re cool with this. It’s undeniable that the majority of people are now betting using their mobiles, so it makes sense to focus on that type of platform. It’s true there are still people out there who like to use desktop sites to bet in NJ, but there are plenty of alternative sportsbooks with excellent regular sites available for them.

Here are some of the other headline things to know about Tipico:

  • Tipico was founded in Europe in 2004 and is a huge name in sports betting, particularly in Germany.

  • In New Jersey, Tipico operates under a partnership with the Ocean Casino and Resort in Atlantic City.

  • The sportsbook is regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and has official partnerships with the NFL, NBA, and MLB. It also has extensive links with European sports and is the official betting partner of the Bayern Munich soccer team.

  • To place a bet with Tipico, you must be at least 21 years old and physically located in New Jersey and Colorado. The site is also planning to launch in Ohio soon.

The feedback from our experts was largely very positive towards Tipico, but as always we’ve included some areas we think could do with some improvement too. Let’s get right to it.

Tipico Software and Mobile Betting App

As we’ve mentioned, Tipico is all about the app. If you want, you can search for the desktop site and use it to sign up, check out the latest news and bonuses from Tipico, and even make deposits and withdrawals – but when it’s time to bet, you need to get on that app.

The app is easy to download, whether you have an iPhone, iPad, tablet, or Android phone. You should be able to find it in your app store, or you can search for the Tipico sportsbook using your browser to get a link to download it.

Overall, our experts are very happy with how well the app is designed. We found it to be logical and easy to use, with plenty of functionality without feeling too cluttered.

The platform really feels like it has been designed for a phone, as opposed to being a desktop site that has been scaled down. Navigating around involves plenty of swiping, hidden or drop-down menus, and other neat touch-screen techniques. The “Back” button is also your friend when it comes to switching between different bets or features.

From the main menu, you can choose to head to some of the most important parts of the site – live betting, games that day, bets with boosted odds, and more – or you can select a sport and start browsing.

If you drill into the live betting section, for example, all the available sports appear in icons at the top of the screen, so you can easily cycle between them. In the regular betting market, you can swipe along the top of the screen to jump to different betting categories, like Over/Under, Props or Futures.

Placing a bet is simple and intuitive too, thanks to the Betslip tool that appears when you click on a bet.

The other non-betting parts of the app are similarly well-designed. Depositing and Withdrawing, for example, is really easy and just takes a few clicks.

Overall, we’re impressed.

Software and App Highlights

  • Modern and smooth mobile platform that feels very natural to use on your phone.

  • Both browsing and placing bets are very easy.

  • The live section is very clear and well laid out, and placing bets in real-time is similarly easy and fast.

  • Lots of live games have graphics that show updates and stats as the game unfolds, which is great.

Things to Improve

  • For the time being, you can only bet on Tipico using the mobile app, not on your laptop. We’re cool with this, but ultimately we also have to recognize there are still some people out there who don’t like mobile betting – and for them it would be nice to have a desktop option.

Bonuses and Deals at Tipico

Tipico is a new arrival to the sports betting scene in the US, and it’s no surprise that they’ve come stocked up with bonuses and promotions to aid in attracting new bettors.

During our Tipico review, our experts found a good variety of promotions on offer – both for new members and on-running promos for existing members.

In this section, we’re going to recap what was on offer at the site during our review. Remember that sportsbooks tend to change up their bonuses from time to time, but this provides a very good sense of what you can expect to find at Tipico, bonus-wise.

$250 Sign Up Bonus

Tipico’s welcome bonus for new customers is a good one. Once you sign up and make your first deposit, the sportsbooks will 100% instantly match it up to $250.

As always, it’s important to check out the terms and conditions.

At the moment, you don’t even need to use a bonus code or promo code to unlock the welcome bonus – instead, it’s automated during registration.

10% Reload Bonus Worth up to $250

This is not the most generous reload bonus we’ve ever seen (since it’s only 10%), but it’s still great to have an on-running bonus offer available any time you deposit money. In this case the wagering requirements on the bonus cash are only 1x, which is great.

Parlay Insurance

Tipico is offering insurance on any MLB parlay with 3 legs or more. If there is a full game no-hitter and you lose the bet, you’re eligible for a refund of up to $750.

Tipico offers these types of promos all the time, and they tend to change up depending on what leagues and competitions are happening. So while this example is for MLB, you can expect something similar (or special odds, or a risk-free bet) whenever something like the NFL playoffs or the World Cup rolls around.

Enhanced Odds

Tipico has an entire section dedicated to selected bets with enhanced odds. To see the offers, just look for the “Boosted Odds” button from the main menu.

Kinds of Bets and Odds

Tipico has been in the sports betting game for a long time, and it shows in the betting menu. There are tons of different ways to bet, from straightforward money line bets to granular prop bets.

Overall, our experts were very satisfied with the range of bets on offer. It should be enough to cover just about every type of bettor, from beginners to experts. Here are the things that jumped out during our Tipico sportsbook review:

  • Tipico has multiple markets for all the top sports.

  • Unsurprisingly, given the company’s European roots, there are tons of markets for top Euro sports – which is not always the case in North American sportsbooks.

  • The most popular bets are displayed most prominently.

  • The live section is easy to use and well-designed.

  • The odds themselves are competitive with the other top online sportsbooks in the US.

Below, we’ve taken a closer look at some of the best you can expect to find.

Popular Bets

We’ve been in this game long enough to know that the majority of the action goes on just a few types of bets – and Tipico does a great job of making it easy to find and place these bets. Money line bets on the outcome of a game are top of the list, and first-time bettors will have no trouble making them. Point Spreads and Totals are also prominent on the site.

Futures

For each sport, Tipico has a section dedicated to futures bets where you can place all the most popular longer timescale bets. Pick the winner of the Stanley Cup, the NBA MVP, the World Cup winner, or whatever competition you choose, and watch your bet unfold over the course of the season.

Prop Bets

The prop betting market at most sportsbooks seems to be growing by the day, and Tipico does a great job at featuring all the best options. Bet on throwing yards in NFL, rebounds in the NBA, or disciplinary specials in the NHL. Tipico has live props too, so you can also get hyper-specific on your bets on games in real-time.

Live Betting

We are big fans of the live betting platform at Tipico. A big reason to bet on your mobile device is to take advantage of live bets, whether at a game or watching in a bar, and it’s easy and intuitive with Tipico. The most popular bets appear very prominently for fast access, but you can also click into the games to find more bets.

There is also a special Rapid Bets section, which is a great addition to live betting. It allows you to place bets with basically one click, so you can take advantage of the best odds as they change in real-time.

There are even live-streamed updates from tons of games, right on the app, including graphics and stats, and you can cash out your bets in real-time.

See our top-rated live betting sites.

Parlays

Parlays are easy to place at Tipico. All you need to do is add multiple selections to your bet slip, and it will automatically determine the different betting options for combining your choices. Use our free parlay calculator to make parlay betting easier.

Sports You Can Bet on at Tipico

We were very happy with the range of sports available at Tipico. Most top sportsbooks, especially those with a presence in several countries around the world, have a wide variety of betting options to cater to an international audience – and that is the case with Tipico.

Below, we’ve listed the sports that were available at Tipico when we conducted our review. However, it’s worth remembering that sportsbooks tend to update their betting options all the time – particularly before a new league season or a new sporting event begins.

Basically, unless you want to bet on an extremely obscure sport, we’re confident you’re going to be covered at Tipico.

Tipico Deposits and Withdrawals

With banking options, we always like to see lots of different options available. In the modern world of online betting, there are tons of novel ways to transfer money online, each of which comes with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Every bettor is different, and everyone has different requirements for how they like to do financial business online – from cryptocurrencies to simple bank card transactions.

Overall, Tipico does pretty well in this regard. Here are all the supported payment options:

Tipico Deposit Options

Deposit Options at Tipico
ACH/Instant eCheck
Credit Cards (Visa and Mastercard)
Debit Cards
Online Bank Transfer
Cash at Casino Cage
PayPal Transfer (via Bank Account)

Tipico Withdrawal Options

Withdrawal Options at Tipico
ACH/Instant eCheck
Online Bank Transfer
Cash at Casino Cage

The big things missing from this list are an e-wallet (the PayPal option is really a bank transfer processed by PayPal) and a Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency option. Given how popular e-wallets in particular are with online sports betting, it’s something we would certainly like to see added.

The good news is that Tipico are fully aware of this, and have already indicated their intentions to add more payment methods to round things out – even going so far as to namecheck Apple Pay and Venmo.
It’s early days for Tipico in the US, and we expect to see more options down the line. For now, we’re satisfied.

We also have no real complaints about processing times, which are all reasonable and pretty much at least par for the course. Check out the table below for more info.

Tipico Signup and Registration

With the flood of new sportsbooks arriving to the United States, getting signed up has been simplified into a fine art. As long as you’re in a legal state, anyone can create an account and start betting within just a couple of minutes.

Tipico is no different, and our experts had no trouble registering a new account during their tests. The sportsbook even automates a crucial step of any sign up bonus – by letting you choose your preferred welcome bonuses from the current public options when you click the button to register.

Once you’ve chosen your bonus, you’ll need to provide the following information to complete your registration:

  • The first screen requires your date of birth and email address, as well as your phone number. You’ll also have to choose your unique password.

  • Once you click “Next” you’ll be brought to a new screen, where you need to give some personal details. Type in your name, full address, and the last four digits of your SSN. This last requirement is necessary to prove your identity, and will not be shared with any third parties.

  • Finally, there are some extra security steps. You need to create two security questions and answers, which can be used to help retrieve your account if you get locked out.

  • Before finishing you need to check a series of boxes, confirming that your info is accurate, that you’ve read the terms and conditions and that you are over 21. Once you’ve done all that, click the “Register” button to complete your registration.

Once you’ve created your account you’ll be able to see the lines and place bets – but you’re not quite finished. You still need to verify your account before it’s entirely unlocked – which can be done by uploading copies of some personal documentation including your passport, proof of address or social security card.

Tipico Security and Gaming Licence

Tipico is fully registered with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. As is a legal requirement with all sportsbooks in the Garden State, Tipico has a partnership with a local brick-and-mortar casino – in this case the Ocean Casino and Resort in Atlantic City.

Tipico is new to the US, but the sportsbook has a longstanding reputation in Europe. It has been in operation since 2004 and has developed considerable consumer trust and visibility over this time. It also has many professional sponsors and partnerships, both in Europe (the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich) and the US (NFL, NBA).

Overall, we have no security issues with Tipico. With a big name like this, we expect safety and dependability – and that is our experience so far.

Customer Support at Tipico

Transparency and availability are essential attributes for effective customer service with any sportsbook. Betting online can be confusing at times – whether it’s understanding the terms and conditions associated with bonuses, knowing the differences between the banking options or just simply understanding all the different types of bets.

When any kind of confusion inevitably arises, you want fast and simple answers. The last thing you want is to feel stranded or helpless.

Given all this, Tipico does well. The Help Center (which is available both on the app and the desktop site) has lots of resources. First up is the list of FAQs and other help topics, which you can browse to find lots of useful information. The topics are split up into subcategories, and you can also search by keyword.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can either contact Tipico by email or go straight for the 24/7 live chat. Either way, you get to talk to a real person who can help you with whatever you need.

Things Tipico Is Doing Right

Any time we review a big-name international sportsbook in the US, we’re eager to see what they bring to the table and our expectations are typically pretty high. Tipico doesn’t disappoint. It’s a great addition to the sports betting scene in New Jersey and will be in other states too whenever it expands.

Here are some of our highlights:

  • Tipico’s actual betting platform is exclusively available on mobile – meaning it’s designed solely with mobile betting in mind. This is something you can tell just from using it for a few minutes. Navigating around the site with just your thumb is smooth, intuitive and easy. If you love mobile betting, this is a great sportsbook.

  • On a similar note, the live betting section is excellent. We love the interactive graphics and live content streamed from games, directly on the app. Mobile betting and live betting go hand in hand, since you want to be able to place a bet on any event happening right now no matter where you are. Tipico lets you do this.

  • We’re big fans of both the welcome bonus and the range of other promotions up for grabs. It’s a pet peeve of ours when a sportsbook has a great welcome bonus, but then totally neglects their existing customers – so it’s nice to see plenty of options for both. The $750 welcome offer is impressive too.

  • From a security and customer support POV, we have no concerns. This is a modern sports betting site with a trusted reputation built up over decades, and many happy customers in Europe.

Things Tipico Could Work On

Our experts haven’t yet reviewed a site and come back with no notes for improvement. Here is what we think Tipico could do to make their NJ site even stronger.

  • Placing bets with Tipico is an all-mobile affair. Many sportsbooks have great apps in addition to a regular desktop site, but this is not one of them. If you still like to bet the slightly more old-school way, using your laptop, you won’t be able to do so for now with Tipico.

  • The banking methods are pretty good, but not up there with the very best sites. This is something Tipico has already indicated it intends to improve, so we aren’t too worried. The addition of some e-wallet options is essential, and we’d love to see cryptocurrency payments accepted too.

Tipico Company History

Tipico is most commonly associated with Germany, but in fact, the company was founded in Malta in 2004. Today, it still holds a license from the Malta Gaming Authority, in addition to various local gambling licenses in several different countries.

It is by far the largest sportsbook in Germany and Austria, with more than 1,200 physical betting shops in operation in addition to its online gambling platform. Tipico has signed sponsorship deals with some of the biggest names in German sports, including being the official betting partner of both Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga. Upon arriving in the US, Tipico has also begun official relationships with pro leagues like the NFL and NBA.

Today, the company employs more than 1,800 people, and is rated as the sixth-largest sports betting company in the world.

The Final Word on Tipico

Mobile betting is undoubtedly the way the wind is blowing, so we’re not surprised to see one of the biggest sportsbooks in the world launch exclusively via mobile in the US. It’s a technology that we love to use in general – and especially when it’s designed like Tipico’s platform.

Browsing and placing bets is extremely easy, and it’s an achievement that the site never feels crowded or claustrophobic. There are plenty of bets and sports available, certainly competitive with other top NJ sportsbooks. The live betting platform in particular is a highlight.

We love the bonuses and promotions, which are valuable and varied. Security and customer support are both very good, and getting signed up to play is easy.

The banking methods are not quite as extensive as in some other books, and it’s something we hope and expect to see improved in the future. The only other major potential turnoff is the lack of a desktop site, which is fine for us as we said – but may not be for everyone.

If you like the sound of all of this, you can use our links to download the Tipico sports betting app and get set up with the valuable welcome bonus today.
