The Dodgers own one of the best lineups in the league, but their pitching has been a nightmare. The rotation didn’t have much depth coming into the season, and now they are without two key starters Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller. That has forced them to rely on young pitchers like Gavin Stone (1-1, 6.00 ERA), and the results haven’t been good.
Stone is a pitcher the Dodgers have high hopes for, but he has not looked great. He has just one quality start across four games as he struggles with his control, leading to an ugly 1.78 WHIP. Stone’s previous start was one of his worst, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks across 3 ⅓ innings.
The Blue Jays bats haven’t been great, but they are starting to get more production from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and George Springer. Those are three incredibly dangerous hitters, all of which can hammer the Dodgers’ young pitcher tonight.
Toronto will have Chris Bassitt (2-3, 3.90 ERA) on the mound against the Dodgers. The veteran went 16-8 with a 3.60 ERA in his first year as a Blue Jay last season, and he is off to another strong start. Bassitt will have a very difficult test as he matches up against an elite Dodgers offense, but he had no problem shutting down another great offense in the Yankees just two starts ago. It may not be perfect, but Bassitt will do enough to support a big night from the Jays lineup.
We love the under here for a couple of reasons. First is the Mariners offense. They are off to a cold start for the second season in a row, ranking twenty-third in batting average (.227) and twenty-fourth in runs scored (89). While they have been heating up a bit lately, that won’t continue as they face one of the best pitchers in baseball tonight.
Zac Gallen (3-1, 3.00 ERA) will get the start for Arizona today. The 28-year-old has been in the Cy Young conversation the last few seasons as he established himself as one of the NL’s top arms. The righty is coming off one of his worst starts of the season, but he has looked elite in his other starts. That includes an impressive performance against a great Yankees team, throwing six scoreless innings in the win. Even at their best. Seattle’s offense isn’t anything close to the Yankees.
The Mariners will turn to George Kirby (2-2, 5.33 ERA) to face Arizona tonight. While his ERA is ugly, it is inflated by a pair of ugly starts. The 26-year-old has bounced back in a big way, allowing just two runs across a combined 11 innings in his next two starts. Kirby has been a critical piece of a great Seattle rotation for the last two seasons, and l deliver a strong performance against an Arizona team that has seen their most dangerous player (Corbin Carroll) struggle.
