PokerStars, the online poker cardroom owned by The Stars Group, announced launching its online poker room in Michigan last Friday. The launch made PokerStars the first online poker operator to offer its services in the state. Additionally, Michigan residents can now wager on sporting events via FOX Bet Sportsbook and play casino games at the Stars Casino. All three offerings are available in the same app.
Via its Michigan launch, PokerStars has now gained access to services in three US states. They first began offering service to New Jersey in 2016, then gained entry to Pennsylvania in 2019.
As the leading operator of online poker, PokerStars provides Michiganders access to its world-class suite of industry-leading daily tournaments including its famed COOP (Championship of Online Poker) series. From short, fast-paced online poker cash-games to major Sunday tournaments with large prizes, real and play money games are available around the clock on PokerStars’ safe and award-winning platform.
Commenting on the groundbreaking news, FOX Bet CEO said:
The key differentiators for us have always been our valued partnership with the FOX Corporation and the strength of our industry leading FOX Bet Super 6 product combined with the PokerStars business and we plan to lean into these unique assets as we launch in Michigan. Behind FOX Bet Sportsbook, PokerStars and Stars Casino, customers create one account for all three apps, unlocking a wide variety of exciting and entertaining options to supercharge the experience for our Michigan audience.
PokerStars has hosted almost 2 billion tournaments and dealt more than 200 billion hands across the globe. Their brand organizes locally focused “home games” through its app that targets poker play between neighbors and friends.
By controlling over two-thirds of the world’s online poker segment, PokerStar’s entry into Michigan continues its domination in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, likely setting a path to other new US states as well.
Michigan will be able to join the interstate player sharing compact with other legal online poker states as outlined under a 2020 law. Michigan officials are still finalizing agreements to join the existing compact but players in Michigan should be able to participate and play against players in other legal US states in the coming months.
Currently, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Nevada are the only states that offer legal, online poker with sites to access. Indiana is considering offering online poker later in 2021 with West Virginia looking to expand legislation to allow for online poker as well.
FOX Bet joins a large opportunity sports wagering market in Michigan, which is off to an extremely fast start. They are already operating in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Colorado. FOX Bet joins key competitors DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel, PointsBet, BetMGM among others.
FOX Bet is offering a free $100 in site credit after making a first deposit (minimum $10).
Promotion is heavy through their FOX NFL and NCAA college football broadcasts plus their daily show aired on FS1. FOX Bet’s Super Six contest has been a key factor toward their continued growth. FOX officials said participation in the free-to-play contest allowing players to pick the outcome of six live events has doubled over the past year.
Also, to highlight Sunday’s Super Bowl and celebrate the launch for new customers, FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering 10x money wagered if the Kansas City Chiefs or Tampa Bay Buccaneers score a point for the Super Bowl (max bet $10, winnings paid in site credit).
