Two of the NL’s top teams will be squaring off tonight, but the Phillies enter with a massive advantage on the mound.
Philadelphia will have Zack Wheeler (15-6, 2.60 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) starting in Milwaukee tonight. The ace is having a Cy Young-worthy season and has been incredibly sharp since August 1, going 5-1 with a 1.76 ERA. The Phillies are 6-2 in his starts during that span.
Wheeler will be facing the Brew Crew for the second time this season. He dominated, allowing one run over seven innings en route to a win. While the Brewers bats are incredibly dangerous, they have been worse since Christian Yelich’s season-ending surgery. As long as Wheeler can work around Jackson Chourio, he will cruise to another win tonight.
The Brewers will have Frankie Montas (7-10, 4.49 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) on the mound against Wheeler. The veteran has some ugly numbers but has gone 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA. While those numbers are more respectable, much of that success came against some of the league’s worst offensive teams.
Expect to see Montas struggle badly against the Phillies tonight. The 31-year-old has barely been able to contain average offenses but now will be facing a Philadelphia team that ranks fourth in batting average and fifth in RBIs and hits.

One big reason to love this bet is that Hunter Brown (11-8, 3.59 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) will be on the mound for Houston. The 26-year-old started the season slow but has gone 6-3 with a 2.80 ERA since July 1, making him one of the top pitchers in the league during that span.
The Padres offense has been incredibly dangerous, even when Fernando Tatis Jr. has been on the IL. San Diego pounded Hunter Brown in a September start last season, but the pitcher has come a long way since then. He is showing why he was one of the top pitching prospects in the organization, and we expect him to baffle the Padres tonight.
San Diego will have Michael King (12-9, 3.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) starting tonight. The 29-year-old is having a fantastic season for the Padres, but we don’t trust the former relievers’ numbers. One reason for that is the number of unearned runs allowed by the Padres during his starts. Since July 1, King has allowed 15 earned runs, but 23 unearned have scored.
The Astros will be the best team that King has faced in some time. Since August 1, he has faced teams that rank in the bottom half of the league in runs scored in five of his seven starts since August 1.
