Week 14 of the 2023 NFL season is set to be a do-or-die moment for most of the NFL playoff contenders. Now it's time for some of the remaining teams in the NFL to finalize their game plans and make a strong postseason push.
One of the top games in the AFC this Sunday is set as the Buffalo Bills, who are desperately attempting to make a playoff push, will face their non-divisional rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. This game looks to be a redemption game for both Buffalo and Kansas City. Buffalo has to make a serious playoff push this early into December as they have fallen into poor play on both sides of the ball and tough off-the-field issues. The Chiefs are not as dominant on the office side of the ball as they have been in the past few seasons. Their issues could keep them from making a potential dynasty.
After a divisional 22-16 overtime loss to the New York Jets in week one, the Bills accounted for three decisive wins, one against the Miami Dolphins. Since the 3-1 such start to the season, Buffalo has battled through inconsistencies on the offensive side of the ball. The Bills have gone 3-5 in their last eight games as they have battled a brutal set of opponents. If the Bills were to lose this game, it would be the first time this season that they would fall under .500%.
Like the Bills, the Chiefs also experienced a tough season-opening loss as they fell at home on Thursday Night Football to the Detroit Lions 21-20. Kansas City was able to win 6 consecutive games, as their defense has been among the top in the league. Kansas City has won two of their last five games due to a lack of reliability in the deep passing game. This is the season where quarterback Patrick Mahomes has certainly lost confidence and his receiving court outside of the tight end corp. Kansas City is coming off their worst loss of the season as they fell to the Green Bay Packers on the road 27-19.

Over the past few years with Mahomes as the quarterback, the Chiefs have created one of the most explosive offenses in the league thanks to his incredible passing ability and a solid group of dependable receivers. This year is the second season without elite wide receiver Tyreek Hill, but it is also the first year without several sets of reliable role receivers as they are off two other teams. This season has been the most disappointing season for the Chiefs passing offense, as they are ranked eighth in the league in passing yards per game (252.7).
Other than tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Rashee Rice, no other play for Kansas City has accounted for 500 receiving yards this season.
Like many of the defenses played in the past few weeks, the Chiefs are playing a Buffalo Bills defense that ranks eighth in the league in passing yards allowed per game (203.2). The Chiefs are going to have to win this game with a slow and methodical matchup as opposed to the high-power passing arm of Mahomes.

This 2023 season, the Buffalo Bills have done a great job not overworking quarterback Josh Allen, especially by making him a runner. The bills have inserted second-year running back James Cook more as a progressive running back. In 12 games this season, Cook has run for 731 yards and a touchdown on 153 carries.
Cook has rushed for over 70 yards in two of the last three games. He has had 45 rushing attempts in the past three games, which the Bills are definitely going to use to their advantage.
The Chiefs are ranked 19th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game (114.7). This leaves a big opportunity for Cook to have his best game of the season and potentially help his team get into the playoffs as a wild card.
The nondivisional rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills from the past few seasons has traditionally been more offensive shootouts. This season, however, is looking to bring a more unique set of circumstances. Both the offenses of Buffalo and Kansas City have been inefficient at times in the season. This game will call for a huge matchup between defenses that have been getting better as the season has progressed.
Buffalo ranks fifth in the league in points allowed per game (18.9) and 12th in total yards allowed per game (319.9). They are a defense that relies on their multiple dynamic sets of pass rushers, especially after the injuries to the secondary.
Kansas City ranks third in the league in points per game (17.3) and fourth in total yards allowed per game (297.7). They have seen stellar play from all areas across the defense.
