Rams vs 49ers Predictions and Picks
Tough to imagine a way for this banged-up Niners squad to pull it together enough to beat the far healthier Rams, especially given how well QB Jared Goff is beginning to play.
Pick:
Rams -3.5 (-110)

It is a 4-1 Los Angeles Rams that arrives in Week 6, one with a fifth-ranked offense and a fourth-ranked defense, so they should make easy work of this banged-up 49ers team that isn’t even sure of their starting QB, whereas the Rams quarterback Jared Goff has a completion percentage of 71.7, ranked fourth among his peers.
According to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, he benched starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo and played his backup C.J. Beathard in the second half to protect Jimmy after he was sacked three times in the first half, although the seven points his offense managed during that time might have also played a part
These two NFC West rivals have met each other a total of 141 times (including 1 postseason game), with the San Francisco 49ers winning 71 of those games and the Los Angeles Rams winning 67 of them, with 3 ties thrown into that mix.
Can the Rams Continue to Show Up on Both Sides of the Ball?
The Rams are solid on both sides of the ball, with OC Kevin O’Connell and DC Brandon Staley coaching top-five squads that are tough to game plan around.
O’Connell’s offense averages 403 total yards and 27.2 points per game, while Staley’s defense keeps opponents to 304 total yards and just 18 points per game, together with a great formula for winning.
Against this injured San Francisco team, these Rams just have to show up and do what they do, nothing more, and they should be able to find themselves on the winning side of the field.
Can the Battered 49ers Find Victory in This Must Win NFC West Matchup?
A half dozen 49ers are listed as questionable for this game, mostly on defense, with LB Kwon Alexander (ankle) and CBs Dontae Johnson (groin) and Ken Webster (hamstring) making them vulnerable in the secondary.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo is also listed as questionable due to his ongoing ankle situation, so it might be a good idea for his backup, C.J. Beathard, to get ready to see some more action in Week 6.
There are sixteen Niners on injured reserve right now, so this team is fielding the best of their next men up, and that makes it a whole lot easier to think about beating this physically damaged team who, only a season ago, were the NFC champs.
Rams Key Player: (WR) Robert Woods
One of QB Jared Goff’s favorite targets these days is Robert Woods, a receiver in his eighth NFL season, fourth with the Rams, and following up a 1,100+ passing yards season in 2019 that followed a 1,200+ season in 2018.
This year, Woods is on track to do the same, so far with 23 catches for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns, a sure-handed receiver who is a constant threat to go deep and who can get yards after the catch with his size (6’ 0”, 195lb).
Woods will be a key target in this Week 6 matchup with San Francisco, so look for him to follow up his 4-catch, 71 yards, and a touchdown Week 5 with some more impressive output.

49ers Key Player: (QB) C.J. Beathard
This is C.J. Beathard’s third NFL season, all with the 49ers, and it may be his big chance to get some serious reps now that Garoppolo is officially listed as questionable for Week 6 due to that injured ankle.
Beathard only completed half of his passes in the team’s loss to the Dolphins in Week 5, though he did throw for a touchdown and avoided tossing any interceptions, a total glass half full look at the losing quarterback in that matchup.
The main problem Beathard will be facing in Week 6 is named Aaron Donald, the Rams powerful defensive tackle who is currently leading the league in sacks with 7.5 of them, something C.J. and his front line should definitely keep in mind.
